Ah. That's better. Now I can chirp.

Any SUV is a massive compromise (contradiction?) of a car! "Sport/Utility"? If you want sports buy a Ferrari. If you want utility then you buy a bakkie. If you need a station wagon go and get a Volvo.

To reasonably expect all the above in one neat (SAFE?) little package is pushing it just a tad dont you think?

These things have high C of G's by virtue of their ground clearance and size. They have the handling characteristics of a double decker bus on tar roads and any wally can drive them at any speed. They are not generally very slow either. I particularly like the black ones with tinted windows - you cannot see the fear in the eyes of the passengers when they pass you at 180 though?

Typically a moderate collision avoidance action - that a normal "car" would survive is often going to make an SUV wallow like a pi$$ed whale. One wallow too many and over it goes!

In order to try and mitigate this serious design problem they use all manner of means to "tame" the whale - stability control (ha ha), suspension new tires, shocks.

The only thing that would be totally effective is a rev limiter that only allows them to do 40 kph on highways and 10 kph on dirt roads. Problem solved - no more k@k from SUV's

I expect a to take a bit of flack from proud SUV owners.LOL I am happy you love them - I dont. Best thing about running out of oil Big%20smile

I'm getting a Fortuner, the problems were created by a interaction between the tires that they came out with and the suspension type, I'd love to buy a normal car, but the roads that I drive would destroy it in no time. My options are Chevy Captiva, or Fortuner, no other vehicle is suitable, and the Toyota is far more comfortable, and I've always driven a Toyota, and I have a Toyota Hilux bakkie and 4x4.

almost like some people on the hub selling stuff.

"Brand new, only done 280 00 km. As good as new. only had for 2 months, not my size looking for something smaller. Price R500 000. non neg. "

Haha - people always wanting more that what its worth and calling a used product brand new...

There is a reason why a fortuner is "cheap" compared to real SUV's.

Love toyota and would never ride any other bakkie, but I just don't get SUV's - as said - not a 4x4 (who is going to go bundu bashing with a R900K audi Q7 or Land Cruiser ?

If you want a  car buy a car, if you want a bakkie buy a bakkie. Combo's never work quite as good.

You are THE man,

100% agreed with this post.

Interesting that VW is launching its Amarok in SA Q3 next year and they are labeling it a Commercial vehicle.

The problem was created by K*K design.

Fitting a taller, heavier body to a bakkie's ladder frame (where the weight is carried lower down) is a K8K idea.

that vehicle is inherantly unsafe. But hey go ahead, its your life and your family's lives at stake. Just post your reg number so when I see you on the road I can provide you with as wide a berth as possible.

SUV's should be banned. Unsafe for their occupants, unsafe for other road users. they were intended to get around emissions legisaltion in the USA and now everyone has cottoned onto the loopholes.

Mostly they're unsafe for iother road users because their drivers are doing like 160km/hr and well within the 2second following rule.

I'd rather drive a Toyota than a Nissan.... Confused

At least a Nissan tends to stay the right side up...

That is if the rust don't get to them first... (which it always does) .. ok used to...

Tongue The fortuner is an extremely practical vehicle for a large family and you cannot buy another 7 seater at the price, my wife loves hers, i will just warn her every now and then that its not a BMW because they are fast and tend to fall over.Ouch udxcob2009-12-07 08:36:42
