OP asked for best value for money pedal.

This would be the pedals with best performance for lowest price, plus low cleat wear. Time wins this one, for both road and mtb, imo.

(I ride with Speedplays & eggbeaters - Love the speedplays, eggbeaters are ok)

Best value for money?  Same pedals on your road and MTB, with same shoes on both. If you want to splurge, you can buy road and MTB shoes (and sandals, like I have), and use them on anything.

Best value for money brand is Wellgo. There is supposedly a local agent but he/she/it has decided that only the cheapie Wellgo pedals suitable for Sportsman's Warehouse needs to be brought in.

I have just finished servicing my MTB pedal's. It is so easy: You remove the pedal shaft with a nr 17 spanner. Drop the shaft in some diesel. Shake. Dump some grease in the pedal casing. Stick the shaft back in and fasten the shaft.

The end.

The pedal? Shimano M770 - or the XT pedal.

I like them because they service easy enough, they can take some pretty bad hits without breaking and as far as clearing mud: They do it better than mud clears from the bottom of my shoe!!!

As far as the crank brothers go - I love the fact that you can buy a service kit with spare parts for it!!!

I think you've been drinking some of that diesel.  Shimano pedals have complex internals, with balls, cups and cones. Should you service them as described above, you'll be doing someone a disservice. Hopefully yourself only.

Complex my rear end. Just don't loosen the nuts...That will make them bearings fall out...And that can keep you busy. Complex? hahaha, of nie!

Actually, after a sip or two of diesel myself, I'm coming round to your way of thinking. You're just removing the entire bearing assembly and without loosening the cones, cleaning it and greasing it? Ja?

That would certainly work if the bearing balls don't need replacing. I hope my next Shimano pedal I have to service is good enough for this shortcut.

Thanks

59% World market share says something. If you're in doubt....please feel free to PM me, and I'll make a plan for you to test a pair of LOOK pedals...then YOU decide YOURSELF!

Value for money, Wellgo and Shimano.

Well priced, work as well as anything else out there and are pretty bombproof.

Even found that the same cleats work on both the pedals. Although apparently they are different.

Nothing beats the eggs for mud clearance but if you dont want to rebuild your pedals all the time use SHIMANO, THEY are bomb proof and give enough of a platform without standing on a pole. Look(pun) in any LBS. I dont see any rebuild kits for Shimano but CRANK's on the other HAND?   smiley2.gif
