Thanks Paul. You've made my day! Will definitely take you up on your offer once I'm back from my holiday.

I am doing all my MTB rides in Suikerbos as well. Sure it is not for MTB but you get the training that is needed.

If not there I spent my time in Midvaal racecourse.

Really sad the fact that I live on the Fast One and other cycling routes and I cannot risk riding these routes by myself.

I now addopt this rule: Would you let your child ride on that road? If no what are you doing there?

Sad indeed.

Letting this happen is more upsetting..

Why must we be forced out of our sport' date=' because of the criminals..???????

Why is nothing being done by the Authorities ???????????????????

Does a member of the local community have to suffer a hijacking or death before the situation recieves attention????????????????

ITS A SHAME AND A REAL DISGRACE, that innocent people are being attacked daily - and nothing gets done to prevent the attacks...

This really sucks, as i ride there most weekends because I feel its quite safe for me and my fiance'. We live along the Spruit and have stopped riding there because of the attacks and now this is happening at our beloved NF ;(((

I hope that with the added patrols planned this wont happen any longer and that it was a once off - this will not deter us from riding there in the new year!!!

Why is everyone so surprised by this? Crime in a place where the victims have personal belongings in the order of thousands of rands traveling alone in an unsecured area... for criminals this is a valhalla type situation.

Some suggestions... get together with the owners/management of the park and get some volunteers to start doing regular patrols (worked fine at Giba). Contact the local police station and meet with their crime prevention office, if they aren't aware of the situation they aren't going to be able to help... and please bare(?) in mind that the theft of a mtb bike may not be considered priority considering the amount of rapes and murders that occur daily, it's not the police's fault, they have limited resources and manpower. Contact the problems areas local neighbourhood watch and chat to them. Basically take responsibilty for yourselves.

I agree EigerSA. As mentioned in one of my posts I'm not surprised. I am busy writing Simon Nash (the NF mtb representative) an email to find out how I can help.

I'm so glad I live in Cape Town.  Yes we also have hijackings, but I've only heard of them on table mountain, the other routes all seem to be fine.

Wasn't snapping at you Mandibles   Embarrassed    I used to be in the police and just get a bit frustrated when a station with maybe 2/3 vehicles is magically supposed to be everywhere all at once. Hat off to you though being proactive, that's what we need... and no riding by yourself there anymore, find yourself a nice lad to ride with. Big%20smile

This is really k@k ! I've only ridden there once being from PTA, but I'd like to ride there again, but looking at the current situation thats a no-no.

I train at Groenkloof allot on my own and thankfully I've never had or heard of any problems there....

I don't know what's going on at the farm currently, but I think the community leaders must be contacted and the community given shares/a stake in the farm.  That would serve as some intiative to help keep it safe and keep riders coming back.  Maybe even start a developement team or something?

Last resort would be to ask a larger entry/subscribsion fee so that armed patrols can be payed for.

Swiss Ja we would all like to crack a few skulls, but sadly with our laws if you use your firearm they will probly jail you and not the crook.

Weight Weenie, this is the first incident inside the Farm that I have heard of. Do not assume that Groenkloof (or any other area) is totally safe just because you haven't heard of any incidents. If it wasn't for Simon Nash keeping us up-to-date via email we would not be aware of this incident and everyone would assume it was totally safe.

There is already a development team at Northern Farm. They run the bike wash in the morning and then ride when they are off duty. I have often come across them when out riding.
