Style rules? Hell on of these days we will see mtb's on FTV designed by Oscar de le Rente and Gucci. Ride them the way you want and not the way others tell you to.

Riser bars are intended for trail and other real mountainbiking. That is why they are a bit heavier, sturdier, wider and have more sweep. You can have them on your XC bike if you need a more upright position but why not just raise the stem instead.

 

 

 

The reason you do not put bar-ends on risers is because you never use it on a trail or real mountainbike.

i will 2nd that !!! as long as you are comfortable !!!! would like to get some of those real hi risers that you got back in the 70's had some on my raliegh dik wiel with the pedal brake that i used for commuting to work was real kiff with the baloon tyres and fixed speed .

I thought there was a strict no bar ends rule on flatbars too...

 

So that's no bar ends all round...

 

Also if you ride a carbon hardtail you must ride flatbars. Dual sus is OK for riser over 3 inches of travel.

And here I thought mtbing was all about a lack of rules and crap. silly me. think I'll just go for a ride. with a dop. and yellow booties.
