Can we not do something about these tossers who are supposedly selling macbooks and phones and stuff?

OBVIOUSLY this whole story is a scam, and it's just not relevant for our forums. My suggestion: since this forum interface / engine makes use of IP logging, just block the IP of these motherf**kers and ban them.

Any other suggestions?

Sorry about the rage but this is slowly starting to make me pretty woes...

On some of the Google discussion groups there is a setting where the first couple of posts by new users have to be reviewed by a moderator before they are submitted.

Just click the "Report Post" button at the bottom of the spam post, type "Spam" into the text box and send it. The moderators remove the spam posts fairly quickly and they also suspend the accounts of the spammers.

I used to report all the spam posts I came across but have stopped doing so. Looks like no one reports any of the spam posts now.

Also, since most ISP's allocate IP addresses as you connect (and you therefore usually get a new one every time you connect), blocking an IP address will usually only result in some poor innocent person getting blocked.  Tracking by IP address is only really worth the effort for serious crimes.

Moderating the first 2 or 3 messages a new member sends sounds like a good way forward.  I run a mail message group for a CHURCH environmental group and we started getting "Click here to see my sexy steamy hot video" being posted.  As you can imagine, they were not amused! LOL

Moderating the first few posts is usually the most effective method - and don't let them know when blocked as most of this is mass hit-and-miss stuff

Shame... then some poor monkey has to read through 112397863171263 posts every day LOL

Guess it's a foolproof method though. Who are the admins of this forum anyway?!
