BACK to the poll, I was at my local bike store the other day and a roadie came in to buy a mountain bike. Reason in kzn next year he said there were only 4 or 6 races. From all the events every week on ENTRYTIME and ROAG in KZn one can see now that mtbike events absolutely outnumber road events. Hence all the new stage races springing up such as jhb to c etc and no more GIRO. The event orginisers are here to make money hence they will put together more mtb events. Like my LBS is orginising 6 events next year and all are mtb events. Also I helped in the shop in December and about 100 types of mountain bikes were sold from silverback, scott, merida, trek and giant and 2 road bikes were sold a trek and a scott. such a pity as we will battle even harder to get our young guys into the pro ranks overseas. hopefully guys such as BUYS will make it on the world xc stage like Burry. Anyway got the horrible task now of taking my SCOTT SPARK rc for a ride in the KARKLOOF KNZ CHEERS smiley1.gif

Apologies dont get that paper in KZN. Still to be saved means the road races are becoming rather thin on the ground. Anyway heres hoping somehow there is a regeneration of road cycling by the average guy.

There are definitely more MTB's sold, and I see them on the road.......emphasis on "road". Though there are definitely more races for MTB, I still see a lot of them on the tarmac.....so, does that effectively make them roadies?

Think maybe it's also because of the danger on the roads with cars etc. that a lot of roadies are selling their bikes for mtb's?

Well, I haven't sold my road bike, but that's exactly why I've gotten a new mtb and is doing a lot more mtb'ing now than road. Was on the road only once since Burger, mtb'ing twice a weekend. And enjoying the heck out of it!
