The funny thing is we proposed a product to VA a few months ago - a spin class to power (on the Cyclops PT300 bikes) - effectively a class for cyclists that would not only be structured around suitable intervals but also to each individual's power level - couldn't get a bite as they felt it was too specialised.

I really feel that there is a great opportunity for group suffering here - with a real training benefit.

You have to speak to the right people.....

i've got rollers ' date=' any ideas on indoor routines??? [/quote']

this may sound silly: i've got my rollers set up in front of the telly. so if the wind forces me to stay indoors, i slot a cycling dvd on and sprint when the racers sprint, lower the cadence when the peloton's cruising. it's kinda cool in a way, cos you can browse the titles and go, um, do i feel like a paris-roubaix or a la course en tete workout?

When I lived in the USA a health club I attended in Boston had a sort of computerised system on each bike.

At the start of the class the instructor would say right set your level to say 3, then there would be a red dot on the screen moving at a pre-determined speed (speed 3) your position was indicated by another dot and your job was to keep up with the control dot by cycling faster or slower, gearingup or down, whatever.

It was great, you could set differant speeds, courses etc.

I am surprized that VA was not interested Bikemax, it sounds fairly similar to the programme I saw in the USA and it was very popular.

So true, I find 3 out of 5 instructors are worthwhile the others are irritating. Luckily the 1h30 class is by a 'proper' cyclist. But i still prefer it to rollers at home watching 7de laan.

I have to spin without my glasses so unfortunately that reduces the purv factor quite a lot. Cry

Widget....it is all about the $$$$!!!

VA is not even willing to fork out the dough for normal spinning bikes!!  Needless to say if you add power, you look at a spinning bike 3 times the normal price!!

They don't have that many people in their spinning classes that are as spesialised about their training as us............

80% of the class consists of your normal house wife that battles with the concept of turning the knob clockwise or anticlock wise.....

Well out of all the natter above one thing stands clear..... choose your spinning studio well. The highly commercial spinning studios are like the one shown in the old Tazz advertisement with madmen wanting you to do fad cycling not based on proper cycling norms. Ask other cyclists where they spinn..... many of them does that as the state of cycling on the roads are too dangerous. Get involved with a cyclists based spinn group.... even if it is not in a fancy airconditioned glass enclosed gym with a heated swimming pool and sauna, but with fellow cyclists dedicated to improve your cycling prowess.

I can grant you temporary access...but you must be out of the area by 18:00.  Please don't abuse these privileges and also leave the roadies alone Dirty!

I try to attend classes only with instructors that are also cyclists.  I absolutaly hate it if the instructor tells us to pedal backwards or to bend your knees so that your hips are below the saddle hieght and the pedal like that.  I mean who the hell cycles like that on the road?  It's mostly the earobics instructor type of spinning instructors that does that

Backlash en dan is daar die instructors wat 'N CHAT SHOW HOST OP  DIE FIETS, maak my NAAR se ek vir jou NAAR

wow.....i saw this topic and i was so excited

then read all the replies and it seems im gonna be the only one to say i love spinning

i do believe we've had discussions bout this before though.....
but some common sense is advisable
you dont like the instructor  so do not go to one of his/hers classes

there is hardly a point in doing it if you not enjoying it

you find yourself counting the minutes to the end rather than pushing your muscles

i got a fave instructor

it helps that he is super hot and although i have not been up to say "hi my name is so and so and i was just wondering if you do actually cycle?" i now know just by looking at him that he doesnt - his upper body is too muscly and his rd shoes with mtb cleats are a bit of a tell.....

however he is a chiropractor hence i think he has an idea of what not to do to put pressure on your knees or whatever

since i swapped my pedals from time to spd's i find spinning even more enjoyable as my foot used to hurt when using normal shoes

now it's like heaven

i think you need to decide why you go there in the first place if it is to help you in some way

do you go cos you wanna improve your fitness?

do you wanna be able to recover from a 6min climb in 30sec?

do you wanna perv?

i take all of the above

the harder his classes the more i enjoy them

spinning and abs torture are what i go to the gym for lately

and some rowing from time to time

i find that the serious abuse i put my abs through has helped me in cycling and in my spinning classes

my core is stronger so when all the housewives are bouncing up and down i make it my aim to not move my upper body

if robin doesnt have a class on i would go and spin on the bike outside the studio

i warm up and then do 2min hard climb fallowed by 1 min med

do that 10 times and then cool down

i find i have started loving hills because of it and actually enjoy it tremendously

so me, im all for spinning

with the correct person...
