Don't waste your time vanwa.Just phone your lbs and ask them for a 29' tube, tire or even rim and see how long they laugh for.Any benefit you think you might get from 29' will be gone the first time you puncture or shred a tire etc.Even if you can find a shop that has spares your tire choice will be limited. If i am not mistaken 29' bikes also need a 29' shock so if you have problems with your fork you can't just pop another one in.26' rules ,at least you can bum spares off your mates.

Makes lotta sence String . I have put 26 on a 27 (roadie bike, and don't ask why I did it ) and it was not as easy as it sounds ! V-Brakes are also big problem .

29 er's suffer from the biggest of cycling issues "weight" everything weighs more, bigger frame, wheels, fork.

Straight line downhill riding probably quicker and easier on the 29 er, as for the rest it will come 2nd.

As Stringbean said getting spares will be a pain.

Reminds me of the days when there were no mtbk's or bmx's as we used to use our "normal" bikes to race each other in the veld and down the mine dumps, pedal brakes, sturmy archer 3 speedsmileys/smiley1.gif

29" wheels only come on the back and are supposed to improve handling and climbing abilities. Gary Fisher is the "inventor" of this. Availibilty of spares are a problem. I do not think the use of the "new" wheel has yet been approved by the UCI due to an "unfair advantage" issue.

Do any of you own or ride a 29'er? Tubes, use a 26" tube it works. Forks - Get hold of the guys from Rock Shox, they currently have in stock. The wheel has been approved by the UCI. Tyre selection and availabilty is an issue in this country, mainly because there aren't enough guys riding them, in fact I think I might be the only one in SA?

The 29'ers work for guys who are 6 foot and up and are sick of riding these clown (26") bikes that are marketed to rest of the cycling community. It smooths out the ground you are riding due to an improved angle of attack by the tyres. The ride really does need to be experienced to be believed. It rides faster smoother and you feel more refreshed at the end of a ride, it's also nice to own something that everybody doesn't have.

Gary Fisher is not the "inventor" of this.

Who is then o wise man and is it 29" on both wheels????? You seem to have all the answers but prefer to keep them for yourself!!!!! Why not cut and glue a 26" tyre!!!!!

Cut and glue a 26"?

Yes 29 on both wheels, there are currently a few guys in the states running a 29" on the front with a 26" at the back, that way you get the faster accelaration at the back and smoother ride and easier tracking on the front, these are very specialised frames though.

What other answers would you like?
