Almost taken out by a @#$%&* CAR

Coming back from my Strand to Stellenbosch ride on the R44 yesterday, an inconsiderate and probably braindead motorist, almost took me out when she came up right next to me (I actually looked her in the eyes when she at first came up next to me) AND THEN CONTINUED TO TURN lLEFT ONTO THE R102 in the GordonsBay direction.

I actually had to lean down on her car's bonnet while the car's left front tyre was rubbing against my shoe. Luckily I stayed upright and managed to swerve out left when she realised what she was busy doing and slammed on the brakes. As soon as I turned round (after hectic swerving to avoid two other cars waiting to turn onto the R44) she probably saw murder on my face and sped off.AngryAngryAngryAngry  Good thing she did, its been a while since I "tested" my Pepper sprayBig%20smile

i think if had started your tale with " i was on the R44 when a woman driver..." you could have ended it there as well. i reckon most of us woulda shuddered seeing those two dreaded words (an oxymoron really) before the ditto smiley17.gif

People were driving like TOTAL spanners yesterday. I had 3 of those incidents in beach road alone yesterday morning. A howtenger ended up with a faceful of cytomax and a wet carseat.

Same scenario - drivers turned into me without indicating

Nee, n ander site manager het aangejaag, big time.  Toe kanselleer hulle al die site managers se verlof om reg te maak vir n groot inspeksie begin Januarie.

Kom darem nou huis toe vir die World Funride Champs

I too have had a few bad experiences therefore concluded that people who don't cycle envy those who do as we travel just as fast without paying for petrol :)

happens to me often on any road in cape town. . They just seem to preoccupied with god knows what to actually look around before turning.

Well, there were FOUR BIG woman in that car, each with a cigaret in the handDead, so maybe they were in the process of lighting up when she remembered she had to turn.Angry

big or small, the problem with bad driving is just getting worse.

Last time a motorist turned in front of me causing me to take avoiding action, I went to the cop shop. I gave them the registration number and they said they call the motorist. Never heard anything again.

I asked an officer at Hillstar if there was ever anychance of securing a convinction if there are a few witnesses. He was pretty blunt. I said to forget taking action unless someone is seriously injured. The courts don;t have time to deal with light offenses. So as long as nobody is hurt theres an absolute free for all on the roads.

When cyclists decide to join the free for all it becomes silly because we always end up worse off.

Without proper enforcement of all road users we can simply expect our road conditions to decay further.

Off course we can be the change we want to see but I've seen some of the worst driving early morning by folk late for a fun ride and drivng like absolute hooligans.
