I just read the Pez article on the new Madone:

It sounds as if Trek has a winner. Super light, super stiff, and super comfortable. Im not a Trek fan mainly thanks to LA, but damn, they just raised the bar in frame design. This is the kind of innovation that Cannondale used to come up with. The bike has a totally different bb, seatpost and headset design. I'm choking as I say this, but well done Trek.

I gotta admit: the new Trek is sexy.

Firstly, they've ditched two of the things I thought i'd never see Trek ditch: a horizontal top tube and a non-integrated headset.

Secondly, the colour - while not exactly original - is much better than the previous Madone. I could never quite get my head around paying R40k-odd for a grey frame smiley5.gif

It is an very nice design. My gripe is that it is another WHITE frame. Is there so little development R&D in cycling that they now have to resort to Fad colours with every years new models!? What will everybody with their red Crvelo's do this year now that the whole peleton in white? Oops, I did not mean that in a derogatory way and it may not sound politically right!

Actually if you click on the link, it seems to be available in a variety of colours - I guess that's something. If you gonna spend 40k-plus on a frame, it's nice to have a personal touch.

Agree with Racman about the Orbea/Giant comparison.

Yup but most "first" pics of new bikes a white this new season, that indicates the flavour of the month and most of the yuppies are busy checking their credit cards balances right now for a white ne something.

The similarity with other frames is in appearence only. The BB design is a revolution, expect other frame manufacturers to follow. The new BB works like threadless headset, the 2 bearings fit directly into the frame without any cups. This way the space normally left for the cups could be used for adding extra width to the frame, making it stiffer and lighter than the old type frame&bb combination.

The headset & fork combination follows what Cannondale & some other frame manufacturers did, using a larger bearing at t he bottom to add stiffness and simplify the fork design.

The seatpost is another revolution, giving the clean lines and more efficient top/seat tube & seatstay junction that ISP designs offer, but without the hassle of having to saw anythung to size. The top part of the seat tube is loose, and fits over the seat tube extension, with a clamp at the bottom. It offers a degree of adjustment and can be bought in different lengths, too.

In total the frame with seatpost weighs less than a Cervelo R3, and a couple of grams more than a Scott Addict.

Same as Goofs...the white's not so hot. Hmmm...don't think this one'll go onto my list of favourite bikes - frame would have been hot last year, but that look is already taken by other manufacturers (who did a bit of a better job too).
