Princess chuck her arms in the air before the finish' date=' .....and blame the men afterwards ?[/quote']

Not sure what you mean Popeye.. all I know is Jennie won it, and I was glad she had because she told me she planned to about a month previously.

He means that princess threw her arms in the air, thinking she'd won, but didn't see Jenni crossing the line on the other side. She blamed the men for getting mixed up in "their" sprint and affecting the outcome...

Ok I see. But I don't understand why the ladies as a whole would want to ride with the men, for exactly this kind of reason, TV or no TV. They're all serious about the sport so why dilute the race by mixing it with another bunch? The only logic I can see is if their bunch is too small to justify it's own start time.

I agree that the ladies must race on their own. Last year in the Argus, lots of ladies opened the gap of the bunch which makes the race harder.  If the ladies want to compete in the world, they must be able to race on their own. (push into limits without any help)

Actually its been said, inter alia by Anke Moore, that to get to world class level the ladies should ride with the men as it is harder than riding by themselves.  On the other hand their racing has improved a lot since Anke said that.

The question is - what do they want to achieve?  Do they want to live cosy lives winning money easily in SA or actually go out and race where the racing is?

Thanks 4 all the response.

It mostly confirms what my feeling is as well - they should start seperately.

So I've started a poll and aim to to present it, for what it may be worth, to the organisers of various races.

Please take part in the poll.

Blessings,

Naas

I always wondered about the logic of "the real racing is overseas" style statements...do you aspire to work overseas? If you're an accountant/lawyer/hotdog maker do you consider yourself a loser with a cosy life until you sell your first hotdog overseas?

Nothing wrong with making a South African career and trust me - it aint easy money - it's frikkin hard training and racing for not a lot of money....

So who says they volunteered to race with the men? Everyone is busy blaming the ladies here for "wanting" to suck wheels almost....I am pretty sure they are told this is your start time, starting with the vets.....

Very little exceptions were for the cyclelab chicks that did a few races with the men by choice while preparing for overseas races. But then again they didn't fight over prize money with the winners of the elite ladies bunch....

So can we redirect the blame now cos it's getting a bit boring...

I also agree that they should start on their own. You cant give them a slot in the lleague groups or between A,B or C. If you do this they can hang back and catch a fast group anyway. Let them start somewhere between f and h for example. This way they would feel obliged to work harder for a desent time.

What do you do, Eldron?  And is there a World Champs or Olympics for it?  Like World Champs for accountancy or bricklaying etc?  Wink

I am perfectly happy living and working in SA, but I'm not an athlete.  If I was my ultimate goal would be to compete in the Olympics or Worlds, or even some World Cups.  {The closest I currently get is to compete in the World Funride Champs Big%20smile}

Every time our athletes go overseas and don't perform then people complain because they aren't at world-class level.  And, correct me if I'm wrong, but the only way they're going to become world-class is by racing against world-class riders.

So, I repeat - what do they want to achieve?  Do they want to compete in Worlds or the Olympics or just in the World Funride Champs, like me?  Do they want to become world-class or not?  That's the question to be answered, and then the question is what type of racing would be conducive to getting them where they want to be.  And then whatever that is needs to be taken into account by CSA/the race organisers/whoever.

I didn't mean to be derogatory when I used cosy.  I just appears that racing in SA is like racing in a comfort zone.  I think the racing here should be harder, like it is overseas so when they do go overseas it won't be such a shock to the system.

ah the perennial problem of where to put the racing women... whats with this "ladies" nonsense anyway?

Then, on a lighter note, there's this alternative poll..

the racing women should be:

a) riding behind A bunch

b) riding with the vets

c) ironing my shirt

This is starting to bug me now......major....and let it be noted that I DO NOT ride elite ladies categories!

What do they want to achieve??? I wonder....maybe it's the ultimate thing that athletes want - Olympics, Worlds or at least some overseas races. Maybe not. Maybe it's to see you all big men that race licenced categories moan about them!

So how do you become good enough for those? How do you qualify for those? Do they say "stuff you!" to their sponsor and go ride a race on their own just to proove to all of you that they are good enough? How do they earn their money? By racing and winning races. I cannot get the logic behind all this moaning. Maybe you should all club in and organise a ladies only race!

How did Kevin Evans achieve the amazing results he did overseas last year? Besides the training of numerous hours a day he was given the opportunity to RACE

the distances they do overseas and improve.

So organisers must provide the girls with their own bunch and you must stop moaning how you catch them and how your races are interfered with because of them and bla bla bla. It's bordering on pathetic now...

So they just sat' date=' sat and sat.

When the speed picked up they jostled and jostled and jostled.

When some VB's started to work nicely and it seemed like we're going to catch the break-away they, the ladies, blocked, blocked and blocked(unintentionally of course but very inexperienced and unproffesional)

They never took a turn at the front but positions no 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8 is where they wanted to be.

Needless to say, some of them had the strength to pip us on Vissershok and Odendaals.

Racing ladies? Some of the best in this country?Confused

...??? what to do,...very frustrating.Angry

They deserve to have their own starting group Wink

Don't mind the moaning men, Bored Girl.  You know men have fragile egos and don't like to be beaten by women.  Wink
