If you are sharing a road with cars and trucks then you have to accept that you are at the bottom of the food chain and not ride like you own the road. I am not saying that this is what happened here but you have got to wonder. You cannot blame people for wanting to push lycrians off the road when they are behaving like morons. You want to know why you have such a bad reputation? Look at the responses in this thread - get off your high horses' date=' you are not doing yourselves any favours! For your pleasurehttp://www.carforums.co.za/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=19402&start=0

F you, mate, you make me sick. People died because of a reckless driver. Have you and your fellow sickos on that carforum no respect for life? How about if I post some graphic pics on this forum of dead or injured motorists at the scene of an accident where a truck wiped out a car? And then make jokes about it? How about if someone you care about is in that pic?

Thats there mentality. They spend R20 000 on a car and R50 000 extra on rims. They will also post pics of there stupid accidents. Will never be able to change there attitudes. IQ not much higher then there low profiles tyres.

Oh really? So you're assuming the driver was to blame and OF COURSE the cyclist were all innocent? Pull your head out of your arse "mate".

No wonder people hate cyclists so much.

GF.A I would love to see your attitude should you, wife or child take up cycling. Please remeber these people were farthers, mothers and children of someone. How can you be so heartless?

I read the article in Die Son yesterday

""Drywer praat oor ongeluk"

There is even a photo in, the omie was on his way to work and he say it openly that this will haunt him till he die.

After reading it, I really felt sorry for him as well.

Yes, he made a mistake, but looking at his picture, I cannot help to feel sad for him.

So last night, I not only prayed for the families, I also prayed for him and his family.

He do not look like a criminal or bad person, it was just a old omie, who made a terrible mistake.

I saw that, and I felt the same. Cry

I did'nt follow this, all I can say is that I would rather cycle off road nowadays, but apart from that, I have never cycled on roads like that without a shoulder, ever.    And if that is the only roads surrounding my town I don't cycle at all.

Even if you ride single file, there is not enough space for a car to come past you.

Well said pops, prayers to both families, they need it!!!

I must agree here. We are so fast in our judgment yet when it comes to forgiveness we can drag our feet. In this instance it really sounds as if a mistake was the cause and like the driver said, it will haunt him and that on its own can be ten times worse than any fine incurred by law.

As for the rest of the arguments, everyone has a valid point. Yet as a reporter pointed out in an article, he is a cyclist and motorist, it is not who is at fault but the attitude with which we live. There are rules for both motorists and cyclists yet we all think we are above the rules and take chances. We all know from taking chances come pushing prams.

The issue in my mind that has to be pursued is to obey rules and leave the chances to the gamblers. Also look at yourself and do what is correct and ignore the ones not obeying the rules, even if they get away with it. Your safety is your responsibility and nobody else?s.

?You can only be free within the boundary of rules? I do not know who wrote it, but it is a fact.

I want to know what gfa's response would be if this was not cyclist but
some Harley riders doing 80 km/ph in staggered formation.....blame the biker? Or
if it was a donkie cart?

IMHO, the dude was on the wrong side of the
road...took a gap into "bad" light whatever...and this happened, he "though" it
was ok to overtake and now he now has to live with that decision....

If a
kid ran out from behind a bus? Who is at fault? The life is lost already, should
we not rather think ahead...should we not think for the taxi passengers, who get
out when and where they want to, should we not think for the kid running from
behind the school bus...etc Should we not think??

what we should all
learn from this is that

we are responsible for other road users also,
our actions(car drivers, bus drivers, motorcyclist, lorries drivers etc)  can
take lives on the road....maybe we should ALL drop the attitude and treat ANY
other road user the way we want to be treated.

Interestingly you glossed over the post and picked only the one remark to fuel the argument. To what end?

Sadly' date=' the attitude you and many members on the car forums (as

well as the hub) displays exactly the problems on the roads locally.

Road users as a whole in this country really shouldn't be pointing fingers at any specific group.

Using this accident to start pursuing stereotypes and stir up trouble is more than in bad taste.

Bad

taste hey, let me tell you about bad taste, aggressive tricycle rider harassing

woman driver in peak time traffic, that?s bad taste, pursuing her traffic light

to traffic light in peak time traffic carrying on?. well that?s in bad taste, getting

run down by frighten woman in car, a very strong possibility and that?s the advice

I gave her if this ever happens again.

Connie, I do not agree, you can only overtake on the right hand side of the road.

Yes, he was in the on-coming lane, we all go there when we overtook.

The difference is, he pass while he did not have a good view of whats coming from the front.

He made a terrible mistake, Looking at the picture were the bakkie stand, it was not at a solid white line.

You can only overtook on the right accordingly to our law. (unless its a dualway)

popeye, thanks for the correction.  I should have said "he was overtaking"

but I am sure you know what I am trying to say....as in he did not hit anyone while in "his" lane....

what amazes me is that this GF.A character, a non -cyclist, takes the time to log onto the hub site, after a HUGE tragedy has occurred, just to take a swing at cyclists!!!!What good is that going to do???? does he even know what he's talking about?  Where is his empathy and sense of humanity????? Thumbs%20Down

I don't really need stories, what gets me is the arrogance

that coincides with all this..Peak time traffic, woman driver and the braveness

of the cretin in question.  Also the

damage to her car. Apparently a dent on the door seemed appropriate. I would like

to extend an invite to set cyclist to attempt the same actions when I am

present. Respect is earned on the roads, sadly cyclist fail horribly at this.

Look at your word, "Apparently" you do not know what happend...I have seen a taxi's cut a 4x4 driver of and then got pushed onto the grass...so who was wring?

Comeon man,  you don't cyclist,  I dont like people in cars doing their makeup and  driving  on  the should....we BOTH do not like the attitude of taxis......

So why not start with the common demoninator...taxis etc and work from there?
