Fellow Riders,

I am thinking about upgrading from my Shimano Tiagra to Sram Force in time for pre-season/ Spring 2010.

My LBS also recommends it as the next best upgrade.

What can I gain in this upgrade?

Less weight?

Greater reliability?

Betta performance?

Whatcha think?

You will lose:

Weight

You will gain:

Extra gear (is Tiagra still 9spd?)

Performance (maybe)

Street cred

big credit card account

It would only be an UPGRADE if you were putting on CAMPY!!!!

Like Mampara said the only thing that you'll gain is big outstanding amount on your credit card.

Hi Geno

If you're not being paid to ride a bike, you don't need anything more than Tiagra.

You may however want more, but the gains are largely in the happiness department.

And happiness is important, so if you can afford an upgrade, I say go for it. Your bike won't be appreciably faster, but if the money is there, you will be appreciably happier.

One thing to bear in mind is that the consumables - cassette and chains - will be more expensive as you move up the food chain. You can't run with the wolves and p!ss with the puppies, so if you can't live with the more expensive running costs, don't bother with the upgrade.

I've got tiagra on my bike and was also considering possibly upgrading but realised the thing about the running costs. Had to replace my shifter recently and had it been ultegra for example it would have been quite a lot more expensive.

I think if you're riding elite and the only thing stopping you from doing better is a bit of weight and not having 10 speed then go for it. Otherwise its definitely about perception and how happy you are.

Until i reach that point i'm very happy with my aluminium frame and tiagra groupset.
