I tried to get my Polar HRM Strap replaced at the Argus EXPO.

They tell me,

A. This is not the strap they sold me, I AM TRYING A SCAM.

B. They can not see the serial no, THEY DID NOT BOTHER TRYING.

C. I have over used the strap in the last 5 months. THE STRAP HAS NOT WORKED PROPERLY SINCE DAY ONE.

Guys be careful with these Agents,

They quickly sold me a NEW strap last year R220, Old one was 3 years old. (better quality than the New ones).

I was told I would have to pay R170.

All according to usage, hours per day/ hours per year.

Hours may not exceed 365 hours per year or 730 hours for 2 years.

I must admit that I'm not overly happy with my Polar CS300. I had a Sigma PC15 before the Polar and I liked that more from a use/look/feel perspective. The only thing the Polar has over the sigma is the online diary functionality...

My next HRM won't be a Polar. But rather a brand that offers GPS data together with HRM... wonder what that'll be smiley17.gif

I'm very hapy with mine. Agents in Midrand are really good.

My polar is more than 3 years old and took it for battery replacement Okt last year and they replaced my strap free of charge. Also had a problem with the watch resetting about 4 times a year and they replaced all the insides free of charge in Jan this year.

All this and I only had a 2 year gaurentee. Watch was bought in Hong Kong.

I have had the Polar for more than 4 years.

The Agents did give me good service in the PAST.

I did not question when they charged me for a NEW strap in September last year. (third strap)

Then the whole time the strap is not working.

So I ask them what is happening?

They try and tell me I am try a SCAM!

But over the last 6 months they have became very difficult.

I heard 2 days ago that my S720i is completely stuffed- one button not working and screw holes have been damaged, repair cost R1300. Was advised to buy a new unit for R1995 and get a 2 year waranty. The guy at Polar SC I was dealing with even asked me if he could get rid of the old unit for meAngry to which I politely replied NO SEND IT BACK TO ME with the new unit.

I have a Polar M32 which I've had for around 5 years or so, I forget it's been so long, and is still working 100%. Had the battery and face replaced twice and the strap once. I use it every single day as my normal day-to-day watch as well as my HRM when I'm out riding. I could do with more features, but it works perfectly well and serves the purpose I need it to.

Always had good service from Polar, although I do deal through Sportmans Warehouse (where I initially bought it) as apposed to directly with them.

Only had great service from them, I must say that a lot of warranties not honoured is because of misuse from the owner. I have had both my own polar and my wifes serviced (More than once on different models) by the guys in Midrand without any hassles.

Must say I wont buy any other heart rate moitor!!!

One word to those with problems.

Suunto!

Use mine every day and also wear it as my day to day watch , never had a moments uphill. Can do you own batt replacement ( done it twice already ) .

had a suunto t3, good for the price, replaced battery 3 times myself and on the hr and sensor.  after more than 3 years the strap is shot and the HR strap cracked.

Watch is still working fine, but R 700 for the HR and then more money for a strap R150 approx|?.  If I want lite software and usb R1000, cadence sensor R700 (cyclelab centurion prices)

Getting a Garmin edge 500 from CRC, will be around R 2500 with vat landed, and its new and way better than the T3,  to get my t3 to this level would cost the same and then I have an old, scratched watch with zero garantee and crap software, no gps.

So my advice, get a garmin.  and with retail in SA 4,5k ill just buy another if it ever brakes :)

I have only had fantastic service from Polar. They are at Argus expo and at Epic backing up their products. I have a 720i which just keeps going despite the abuse I put it through. Have replaced watch straps, batteries and on one occasion the agent replaced the entire unit because they found a crack in the casing which they said was a factory fault. This was replaced when the unit was out of warranty. Pity some guys don't have the same experience but I think their service is world class.

Service from Polar ..... the Midrand store IS the DISTRIBUTOR and owner of Polar in RSA. The others like Sportsmans Warehouse are agents..... is amazing and awesome. They have replaced units without asking question only with a new guarantee starting, to replace the same unit later. If they give you warranty hassles YOU are the only one to blame. They honor their guarantees..... always!!!!!!!!

I just recently had a huge fight with them. Gave it in at expo because of some issues. Told me to replace basically everything except the watch. According to them one must buy a new strap once per year. I did not complain and paid what they charged. The next day the thing did not even ick up a HR reading. Had to send it back (own expense). Waited a week and then phoned them. Told me the transponder was faulty now. Kakked in my pants for only picking that up now. Eventually they replaced the transponder free of charge (of which i am very thankful).

Jaco, what belt are you talking of..... the Wearlink Belt with the replaceable battery? Is it only the belt or the thingy that clips onto the belt as well that must be replaced?

me , i'm pissed off big time - sent my polar hrm 720i in for battery replacement and service. followed instructions from polar service centre re sending it via P O counter to counter. hrm stolen, claim lodged with P O, still waiting to hear outcome. i wanted to take it up with polar at the argus expo as they recommend the P O as their preferred "courier service" but they were too busy. anyway i've made peace with myself, i'll just have to listen to my body in future.

I find it really stupid that you have to send a unit in just to have the battery replaced.  Is it a difficult procedure or do they prefer doing this so they know it's done right and warranty stays in place ?

On my Suunto I could do it myself with a R25 battery thats easily available, just clean and lube the o-ring and put it together nicely and voila !
