Hawk Posted March 29, 2010 Share Which are the stiffest cranksets you have ever ridden?Personally, I think the Cannondale Hollowgram SL BB30, what do you think?
javadude Posted March 29, 2010 Share How can you tell the difference in stiffness by just riding them?
techguy Posted March 29, 2010 Share You can't, the Cannondale Hollowgram are claimed to be the lightest and stiffest, not the stiffest...it all comes down to weight, you could make a set of cranks that are by far the stiffest but may weigh 2kg's so all of them are compared by stiffness to weight... Big J-WP Posted March 29, 2010 Share Really does not matter which crank is the stiffest unless you ride a stiff frame, it's pointless have a super record crand on a cr@ppy cheap carbon frame.
javadude Posted March 29, 2010 Share Lets say we can test each crank set out on exactly the same extremely stiff carbon frame. Will a rider a be able to feel the difference between them, or is this just more marketing mumbo jumbo to try get us to buy certain products. Spark Posted March 29, 2010 Share No rider will feel the diff. It's sales talk. How much flex can there be on a crank? 0.5mm????
Christie Posted March 29, 2010 Share Quite a nice crank test was done a while back by Jason of Fairwheelbikes.com. He pre-loaded the cranks with 50lb (22.7kg), and then added another 200lb (90.7kg), and measured the deflection of the drive and non-drive side. the EE prototype crank was the stiffest tested. Its ugly & I don't think it made it to the market, yet.2nd was the FSA SL-K ligth (old design)3d = SRAM Red4th = DuraAce 78005th = Campy Record Best stiffness to weight ratio were:1. EE prototype2. THM Clavicula3. Storck Power arms4. Zipp VumaQuad5. Campy Record Cannondale cranks were not included in the test. Eastons were in the middle of the field, more or less For full test, list of cranks included, pics, etc, go here:http://fairwheelbikes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=77&t=5468&p=72616&hilit=crank+test#p72616
