Raynardt Tissink uses them. Its quite difficult to get used to as the cranks operate individually. But once you get used to it... you'll have a very good and even pedal stroke as your legs are used to working on its own.

At the moment there seems to be conflicting feedback:

Have a look at this one:

A vet rider claims to have increased his FTP by 39% by using powercranks. Before you get excited, consider that hes 38 years old and claiming an FTP of 394w, and a VO2max of 85.46, which would put him in a league with Lance and Floyd. This artticle should be taken with a pinch of salt.

A more realistic view is this one:

which states that powerkranks can help if you have bad pedaling dynamics or a left/right imbalance, but they may reduce your power and

stuff up your pedal stroke if you already have good pedaling dynamics.

Thanks for the above Chritstie.  If the above is true then even one legged drills will be a complete waste of time as they will not be specific enough for long enough to make any inroads into cycling efficiency.

Back to square one then it seems. "cycle lots" seems to be the only correct answer at the moment....

I find the best way to improve pedaling is to do single strokes for a minute on rollers! When you eliminate the bounce in your hips and the stroke feels fluid, thats when you're getting there!

I cycled with Rynaard while he was using the cranks on a training ride (it's weird to see); he rates them highly! Rynaard, you're a legend man! All the best
