In South Africa we don't need more sportsmen, or more participation in an elitist sport (even on fun rider level). What we need is a base to this pyramid that FUNCTIONAL, and contributes to the upliftment of society. Here the bicycle is a FUNCTION, cheap and ecologically friendly MEANS OF TRANSPORT. If we could get a critical mass of people to cycle, instead of drive a car, or catch a taxi, the cycling in South Africa will grow. Also the empoveraged masses (which is an illusion in RSA in comparison to say Nigeria) could travel safely, cheaply and quickly to work. (Many TdF ledgend was a butcher bike delivery boy in his youth). The hypothesis is if you to ride a bike to work or as part of your work, racing becomes a natural extention of your soul. shaunh Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 I have held a meeting with the PPA and have sent all documentationa and have had numerous calls with Dave Bellairs. Mr Bellairs promised tpo meet with me in JHB on numerous occations, but I am still waiting.Why do you guys need more info from me. You know what my aims are and I DON'T need money from you guys. All I wan't is assistance with regards to collecting funds and ensuring that the funds are paid to the sign manufacturers and that the signs are erected. I cannot do this as I am based in Johannesburg. I met with you guys 2 weeks before the Argus this year. You promised that by the end of that first week you will have a commitment from you executive commitee and you offered for me to share a spot at the expo to raise awareness. To this date I have heard nothing. Karin Pohl does not even bother returning calls or e-mails. I have and can do without your help. This might sound arrogant, but all you have to do is see what I have achieved in a short time frame. It seems that all associations/ unions like to have meetings and talk about how things will be done , but fail to do anything. I am a guy that gets things done, not a talker!!!!

shaunh Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 IMHO, this is a great initiative. The fact that CSC has sponsored these guys to go to TDF is great. But if I was involved, I would have said thanks , but no thanks, and rather use that money to get more kids on bicycles than just a few.

You should help manage the external problems as well. That's Life Cycle Development. OK, I deem Shaun as one of my cycling buds, so please don't get me wrong, but why should HE send you a proposal. He is getting something done in GP that ALL of us have only been talking about. He's not trying to "smous" something to you, shouldn't you rather be contacting him?

You were in that meeting as well.
scotty Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 Thread appears to be going a bit wobbly, some good pro and cons mentioned but i have entered, (will be nice to win 1st prize) as i believe one can also get the "masses" on bycyles and in doing so identify the talent they need to, is to have someone they can relate to, and no a Malcom Lange or even a Robbie Hunter will not do it, but rather a Philemeon Radebe or Sipho Mbuse will.
