Cape Town - Julius Malema is no longer allowed to sing the words "shoot the boer" in a controversial struggle song, the ANC said on Tuesday.

He is also not allowed to make any statements about murder victim Eugene Terre'Blanche or do anything provocative.

Gwede Mantashe, secretary-general of the ANC, confirmed to Beeld on Tuesday night that he and President Jacob Zuma met with the ANC youth league leader.

"I've just come from Ma?hlambandlopfu (Zuma's official residence in Pretoria), where I told Malema to refrain from making inflammatory statements. He is also not allowed to sing the song ("Ayesab' amagwala") in its entirety," said Mantashe.

"There will be very clear outcomes regarding Malema after our conversation with him. People will be able to see the result. The ANC and the youth league will restrain him."

He said if singing the words "shoot the boer" is leading to polarisation in society, the ANC will put a stop to it.

However, only the ANC can make such a decision and only after internal discussions, "because it is we as the ruling party who are leading society".

"However, we are convinced that a political solution, as opposed to a legal one, will provide a holistic solution.

"I'm no protector of Malema, but the irritation he causes and the problem... needs to be isolated and solved," said Mantashe.

Cape Town ? ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe has denied reports that ANC Youth League president Julius Malema has been ordered to stop singing the controversial song "Ayesab' Amagwala".

Beeld reported on Wednesday that Mantashe had met with President Jacob Zuma at Mahlamba-Ndlopfu (the president's official residence in Pretoria) where he suggested Malema refrain from making inflammatory statements.

"We didn?t discuss Julius," Mantashe told News24 on Wednesday, while confirming that he did meet with Zuma.

"The press is excited about Julius," he added.

Beeld standing by story

However, Beeld news editor Waldimar Pelser told News24 that he "couldn't believe" it when he heard Mantashe's denial.

"Our journalist spoke to him and we are standing by our story. This is unbelievable," Pelser said.

Mantashe said the ANC has invited structures within the party to a meeting, in which it will be advising them against polarising the current situation by singing the song.

Malema's singing of the song ? which contains the words "shoot the boer" ? was blamed for the murder of AWB leader Eugene Terre'Blanche over the weekend.

On Sunday, Malema denied claims that the song had provoked Terre?Blanche's murderers.

ANC will still meet with ANCYL

ANC spokesperson Ishmael Mnisi told News24 that officials from the ANC will meet with the leadership of the ANCYL to discuss the matter.

"As far as I am concerned, that meeting has not yet taken place," he said.

He urged reporters to attend the press conference that will be taking place at Luthuli House in Johannesburg at 11:00 on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the ANC Youth League has also denied the report that Malema met with Zuma and Mantashe.

"There was never such a meeting," spokesperson Floyd Shivambu told Sapa.

How do you know when Zuma, Mantashe, or anyone in the ANC for that matter - is lying??!!

when their lips move...............and this is not a joke.  These people cannot speak without lying!!  They actually believe their own nonsense................

They most likely have spoken to junior who still has a large following particularly among the youth and don't want to alienate them so they are  smudging the issue.

Malema must be a bit puzzled if he's told to shut up by Zuma, who's campaign song was "bring me my machine gun" as this is also claimed to be a liberation song.
