I would rather get the M&M or Rascals. The Whispers are only for light riders. Stay away from the jelly baby one. They are quite sticky to get out off.

Anyway, ask Dirt Rider.

I've had a pair since january 2007 and have had 0 problems.

They do shed mud Very easily, so theres no problems of clipping or unclipping when it is muddy.

I did find them a little more difficult than SPD's to clip into in the beginning, but now that i am used to them it is a no brainer.

I think the Price to weight ration is pretty good too..

Will buy them again.

I would not say they are perfect . They do tend to break shafts . But it is easy to repair and they even repaired mine under warranty more than a year after I got them .

It's because they have a 2 year warranty. Not many bicycle parts have that.

are the smarty pedals those with the plastic part around the eggbeaters? If so, they suck big balls, they only lasted for two rides before they cracked. Rather just get the eggbeathers, they still going good.

2year warranty, sorry, if I broke it once I don't want it again. I claimed from Cyclesure and bought the real thing. No, was not the plastic, it was the metal eggbeather part, but the plastic is so soft it pushed against the metal parts and made it break. I just got the cheap Eggbeathers, MXR somehting. I see now I did not have the Smarties, I had the Candies, still looks the same.

I also have the Candy C's Marius - and have had no problems...

I'm certainly no lightweight - whereas you are....

So I guess it comes down to riding style?

BUT - I seem to remember you replying to my query a while back about "what went wrong", with words of wisdom amounting to ''stay away from rocks!"... LOL

So yes - if you bash the plastic part really hard on a rock - it might break.

But then so might many things...

I think the Smarty's are one model below the Candy's - but Crank Bros seem to know what they're all about, and like I've said - Marius aside (who shall we say, was "unlucky"), I haven't heard of, or experienced any problems with them...

Last thing - their design is actually so simple. Not many moving parts and all - and more straightforward than your average SPD.

And I remain a firm believer in "the simpler, the better..."
