Approx size road bike

Hi all,

I may have been riding for a while now, but I still haven't found the answers to all my questions! The day before KalChal, I wanted to hop on my MTB for a leg loosener, but broke a valve (looong, embarassing story!).

So I hopped on my road bike... which immediately felt very wierd.

OK, so I know it's wierd to have no suspension, but this felt like it was too short a top tube, making me feel hunched over.

I had a look the other day when lending my bike to cat-i for Afriman, I've got a size 50 frame.

Should I be on a bigger frame? What is the general opinion (I'm 1.76m tall)?

Any advice would be great!

All is not lost. The trend among the pro's is to smaller frames. A 50 can be saved because of the following considerations:

1 the seat post angle is 75% whereas on larger frames the SPA is 74.5% or even 73%. So on a 50cm frame you can push the saddle back or even get a setback seat post. (Get someone to help with the Knee over pedal set up).

Also a slightly longer stem will then be required to "pull" your body back over the bike. If you have a 10cm stem try a 11cm or a 12 cm stem. (obviously after you have the saddle set back sorted).

Lastly, if you go for a more forward position (instead of the climbers choice) remember to drop the handle bars.

Happy playing around. (Consult with LBS for a proffesional set up if you don't want to take the risk).

Damn! Everyone who knows me knows that I don't really do the road thing, except for on my IDT and occassionally when the situation really calls for it (skinny wheeled freaks, ptuoa!)

Sorry, a bit of Tourette's there!

Anyway, I don't really want to spend moola on a road bike. Anyone got a really cheap frame for me! I'm running Shimano 105, and deep section rims, just need new frame.

Thanks Konafan, might be worth fiddling around with the existing one. I know that if I do 100km races, my pinkies go numb. Always thought it was lack of fitness, but my coach assures me after completing KalChal that my base is fiiine Big%20smile (always nice to hear!)

I have a 52cm trek, a 51cm Eddy Merckx and a 49cm Kona Scandium, so If you want to try out diferent sized frames for fit, let me know.

Thanks Daemon. Will find out what second hand frames are around, plus prices on new 2006/2007 frame. Coming up on 94.7, I should be able to find one?
