you must be a MTBiker at heart Wannabe, we dont use such big granny gears on the road  He will be spinning at 160rpm in 34 34 only to be moving at 5km/ph!

with a compact 50/34 you dont need anything bigger than 11-25

It really depends on your riding style.

Do you have a choice between having a Standard or Compact Crank put on the bike?

How fit are you, how long have you been riding?

Tankman, finger error. Corrected to 11-23.

 ok no worries! Otherwise his cassettes biggest gear will be just as big as the cranks smallest gear!

What's with the easy gears?

EpicRider must at least have some competency with a name like that.

53/39 up front.

11-23 for the flat races. 12-25 for the hilly ones.

I am in Paarl, weight 77kg and like to think i am serious - dont we all.

I have been advised from the bike shop to take compact crank with 11/23 casette but do have the option to change.

Tankman thanks for the other thread, from all the info i think i am on the right track taking compact and 11/23 casette.

Cheers and thanks
