Last year the the crater cruise upon finishing I was bummed lying on the ground coughing and coughing - a youngster came up to me and said "Will oom a bietjie water he?"

Priorities took over and I managed a "F0k off Ek is nie jou oom nie maar dankie ja ek is a bietjie dors"

Been 52 I am used to it,........but, I find its more of a term of respect, especially to young afrikaans speaking folks, which I like.

Nothing wrong with been polite and respectfull.

Pitty you weren't called "meneer". Whilst both respectful, the difference between "oom" and "meneer" is earned. E.g. "hy's nou n meneer", of "dis nou n meneer" ... ;) ;)

A meneer is a thing that dangle's of a doggies backside when he doesn't wipe properly.
