goofs Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 With all the talk, which do you consider to be Jhb toughest race or are there others, i have kept it to Jhb area.
Tumbleweed Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 never ridden them, but here's a vote for the victory race. why? cos of sugarbush holy roller2007-09-17 13:05:59
The Saint Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 It's long and Sugar Bush is kinda in the middle and butchers hill on the way back just before the end is the final killer
The Saint Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 I would however prefer the following modification to the race for victory - start a gold reef and finish on the top of the last climb of the 40 km loop of sugar bush, now that would be something and the race would still be close to the 100km mark - just a lot tougher.
pastapouch Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 To add onto those, think you can add EPR and NOla... on bad wind days those two are hell.
buckstopper Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 If you compared total ascent I would guess D2D at 1,4% of distance. Argus 1% 94.7 1,2%. Who remembers Tour de Gold up Hyperama Hill 19 get off and push %
Evan Andreou Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 If the votes are anything to go by, Highveld need to change their catch phrase
buckstopper Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 They have. It's Joburg's SAFEST race.
1hill@aTime Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 what about the telkom is that a toughy?
GutterHugger Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 If you compared total ascent I would guess D2D at 1' date='4% of distance. Argus 1% 94.7 1,2%. Who remembers Tour de Gold up Hyperama Hill 19 get off and push %[/quote'] Tour de Gold gets my vote as well!!!
scotty Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 No question for me the R4V, while the Dome was chalenging with the R4V you do Sugarbush, steps and then Kliprivier.
buckstopper Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 Compare winning average speeds R4V 2006 43.6 kmh, won by Darryl Impey. He was in the winning break at D2D 2007 and averaged 40.19kmh. One or two hills does not make a race tough when the rest is flat.
ewep Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 We're talking about us ordinary cyclists buckstopper! Darryl Impey and the elites are in a league of their own.
buckstopper Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 We all ride the same route................... say no more
Chippy Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 The elite race was about 15 to 20 minutes slower than what was predicted by the organisers.
