Dat you patches?

yup! that be me on the little bike! Feel like a bit of a dork wearing a full face on such a small jump... but I had to wear it in prep for the jumps we were on our way to

Patches, how's the ground among the trees just before the bombhole? Is is still soaked?

yeah, still pretty manky! there's that constant water flow coming down from the embankment that doens't help either. there are a few strategically placed rocks allowing one to hike-a-bike and avoid the slush.

Oh, and the hill down from republic (by the power sub-station) is VERY bad at the moment.

I need to get some better pics of No. 6 and Sleven... still a little weary of Six Miler (No. 8).

Also shoulda had the camera out when MissionS and Peach were busting out the big tricks on the hip at the end.

Patches I see on the picks you riding with platforms and normal shoes. Do the pro's sometimes ride with clipless pedals e.g. when there's longer peddling sections? I see you get these platforms with clipless pedals built into them. Looks kinda cool combo to have?

Normal?! NORMAL?! There's nothing "normal" about Five-tens! :P

But yeah, to answer your question... when it comes to jumping and general free-ride, I'd say most of the pro's go with flats. As for the WC downhill circuit... some, like Sam Hill wear flats (in fact the flats I'm wearing are Sam Hill editions).

Minnaar and Atherton wear SPDs... Peaty too, I think?! Would be interesting to see the ratio of SPDs to flats and as an average over all the seasons courses (cos as you said, some only wear SPDs when it's pedally).

patches: only a handful of flats riders on the WC circuit:

Hill

Brendog

Blenki

Bulldog

Stevie Smith

i'm some of hte lesser known riders also ride flats, but i'd reckon the overwhelming marjority ride clipped in.

Stevie Smith is running clips this year.

oh Mega Man : reminded me to add that some of them do swap depending on the course and course conditions. Stevie rode clipped in for PMB. Not sure about the other two races.
