I reset the watch to factory default and set it up again. Done one exercise and it seems to have solved the spiking problem. Some new problem just before I came up to 60 minutes, I can't believe my HR was that steady - flat line

Big improvement though

Thanks

Strange but my Polar strap is not the same as the one he suggests I fit to the Garmin transmitter so it doesn't fit.

Ok, I googled. Looks like the strap he uses is from the old Polar soft strap. Mine is the 2.4Ghz WIND model.

If I continue having problems I will get one of those straps

This is all quite interesting I am between a RS 800CX pro and one of these 500/705 edge garmins

I was worried about the readout on the polar I have rs 200 which is fine but what happens when there is more info can one easily see it while riding and also what are the button functions like on both types especially with MTB

Anyone

The Garmin is highly customizable as well. 3 screens with 8 data fields but many many choices of data to display. A mad amount! From really useful data to very nice to know to just plain fun data. You would need many many more pages than three to display it all. The Garmin you can set up for use on three bikes each their own speed/cadence sensor (which is one sensor and wireless so very clean on the bike). It is ANT+ so you can even use a power meter - Powertap, SRM, Quarq etc. I would really recommend the 500. 705 is bigger and with maps or so which would be a waste for me. The 500 is small and light and most importantly functionaly perfect for me. I have never thought that it would be nice if it could do this or that.

I have thought about a couple of improvements tho!

Shortcut to switch bike profiles - switching between 3 bikes on a regular basis is a bitch to do manually.

Automatic recognition of which bike you are using and then downloading that data to the specific equipment profile in Something like SportTracks.

Other stuff is more software related and not really anything to do with the unit itself.

The Egde 500 rocks and I would recommend it any day!

Garmin HRM

- Got some great service for EasyGIS when i purchased my Edge 705 & Edge 500.

- To date no problems and i like the mapping function on the Edge 705, i do use that quite extensively.

- However if you are not interested in the mapping, i use my Edge 500 for races and some running.

Take a look and give them a try

www.easygis.co.za

I emailed them for prices, and all items are covered by the local warranty so no issues there.
