Best SA result by faaar David was less than a minute down on bettini in group that sprinted for 14th place. The rest of the elites incl Impey packed.

Well done David, confirmed you're a great talent, pity it couldnt get applied better in Europe.

Cape Town based rider, interesting. So do you need to be in Jhb to improve. I think David trains very hard, races from time to time and gets form.

I hope Impey is still positive about next year with Barloworld after the shock today, he was in really good shape in SA.

Interesting that Thor Hosvovd, the big sprinter from Norway and Zabel got over the steep climbs to finish in same group as David??? How can Thor be a good climber, compared to Darren, Impey and others. OK I wasnt there, just commenting from results.

I guess it was the distance, not the steep climbs that got to our guys.

But well done anyway, if we send a team they get critisized, if they dont send a team they'll get critisized.

David George has just again proved to everyone he is South Africas best rider.

Hunter and Impey watching the racing from the grand stands again. Waste of money.

David was doing solo 7-hour training rides in the Cape Town rain and cold this winter. The guy is the most professional, professional cyclist I have met. He's had no contract this year and hasn't had a salary since the end of 2006. But he's talented and dedicated and he proved that (again) today. Incidentally, he was the top South African at last year's World's, finishing 39th in the front bunch, more than six minutes ahead of the other South African finishers, Hunter and Cox.

No comparison between David and the rest of the South African slackers.

Its much easier to win races in a sprint than to ride away on your own. Hopefully soon we will see David George in the Tour.

well said EugeneP.

as Groot Lem said, if no-one gets sent there's criticism and if peeps go but don't win there's criticism. in my opinion sending peeps is better than not and the only thing to be ashamed of is a dnS - even a dnF is still worth it.

Well done to all who went.

Well done Dave, I will always remember the day I had the privilege of watching you from start to finish in your following vehicle with Willie Englebrecht in your ride to 3rd placed at the world U23 TT champs in 1997.

To CSA however I am not sure how cycling to a degree at this level has gone so far backwards for the world championships. Back in the 90's the cyclist had some finacial assistance and myself who help on several occasion paid our own way - the team got result - where is the passion that brings out world class performances from out cyclist - who are definately capable of world class performances and world championship medals?

Gianni' date=' why the mention of sprinters? David George is a climber...?[/quote']

Euegen..read the post above my own.......

Analoser was showing his (lack of) intelect by saying that it was easy to win sprints like Robbie Hunter did in the Tour.

analyser you have just shot yourself in the head.

Firstly, you have know idea about the conditions on the day.

Secondly, what the team tactics for team SA might have been.

Thirdly,  how the race actually unfolded.

and lastly you forget, everybody reaches their peak at different times. example, look how well robbie did in the tour de france, he was consistently up their with the other sprinters.

so all in all you have made yourself look stupid. because you did not stop to think.

Analyser, I dont discount the fact that David is a lost talent, but the guy had more chances than anyone else to prove himself. He was with US Postal with Lance and Boonen if I remember correctly, but he wasn't prepared to be a Dom.

Also, looking at the profile, and the sort of riders that finished, the route didn't suit either Impey or Hunter.

Word of advice. Double check what you want to say before you crucify yourself Dead

Analiser, you do not seem to understand the issue regarding analising before speaking. Maybe you should reconsidder your Hub name.
