so I have a KCNC post on a Niner frame that is creaking, loudly, every time I ride over a bump (which on a mtb is pretty often)

I have chased the creak the post/frame junction. I have cleaned it and it stays quiet for 2 rides then starts again. I have tried copper-slip, same deal two rides and it is back, if I rotate the post to work the copper-slip around then I have silence again - for two rides.

any better ideas?

It is called the revenge of the 26ers. It’s your painful reminder that you should have stuck to the old tried and trusted 26er.

Forgot to mention that my post clamp fell apart during the TMBC fun ride :unsure: and for a moment I thought I had lost some the parts. Luckily I found them and got it all back together again. No more creaking was heard. I suppose the tell tale sign was the creaking prior to the incedent

mine is not at max height so that is no the issue.

PhilipV I've done that (and with the copper slip) lasts two rides and the creak returns!

Is the seat post an exact fit for the seat tube ?

Both my GT Peace and On-One Scandal had similar issues. The Peace supposedly needed a 26.8 seatpost which it came with, a 27.0mm seatpost sorted out the creaking. Likewise the Scandal's seatpost tube was slightly to big, that I solved by cutting up a Red Bull tin and making a shim out of it.

Thug...not sure of the sizing, but that being said there is a little bit of play...must measure it perhaps that is the problem

<ok back from garage>

nope 31.6mm seat post and that is what the frame spec is too...

more ideas?

Does a Red Bull tin work better than a Monster tin?

the issue is definitely not the saddle itself...well I am pretty sure not

on one ride the noise was bad so I stopped loosened the seatpost clamp, rotated the whole thing 180 degrees and voila the noise is gone....for two rides (at most)

Cbrundson I'd prefer not to buy another post (they are not the cheapest things)

perhaps I can try the shim idea...

I had the exact problem with my Niner. The creak was pretty loud,so i tried all of the above. The answer to the problem is a small ammount of normal grease.Copper slip dries out pretty quick.I put some Park Tool grease & made sure the clamp was nice & tight & that solved my problem.

I had a similar problem and thought it was the seat or seatpost untill i cleaned the clamp and sprayed a little Q20 on it and what do you know silence, its so frustrating hearing the creak. :thumbup:
