As far as I know they do not make a UST version. I ride the "non tubeless" and have had one puncture (which I only bombed - no plug needed) in many, many races (Sani2C, Crater Cruise, MTN XC circuit, etc.

Ironically I put on a Michelin Race'R when I couldn't get a Conti Race King and ripped it so bad I DNF'd on Stage 2 of the Cradle Quest. Race Kings for me all the way...I have 4 in my cupboard!

Eldron,

I have had 6 punctures with my Giant Anthem X1 29er. I then tried to make the Maxxis Crossmark's tubeless. Absolutely no luck. Tried pumps at 4 garages and gave up after battling for 3 hours. Even tried to get a temporary seal with masking tape on the sides, just to get the initial air in. You simply cannot get the tires to inflate. I think the tires fits to loosely on the rims. I tried Bontrager XDX tubeless ready and it took air immediately. Luckly I did it without sealant first. At 2.8 bar the tire exploded of the rim, so I guess that it does not bead in to well. No ways I am going to trust it! Returning it first thing tomorrow! I have just double checked and the max pressure is 3.5bar.

I have basically two options left. Either go for the Geax Saguaro TNT or the Conti non UST. How difficult was it to get air into the Conti's? Am I going to struggle as with the Crossmarks? What about when you flat and need to bomb, will a bomb work?

Any other comments/suggestions are welcome.

Ps. I really enjoyed the Maxxis Crossmarks LUST on my 26" bike and it even kept 3 bar without sealant for a day. Pity that I cannot get hold of these in 29". Neither do anyone know when it will be available.

On my training wheelset I have crossmark front & rear. On my racing wheelset I use Continental Mking 29x2.4 front and crossmark 29x2.1 rear. On my single speed I use Wtb exiwolf 29x2.3 front & rear. I am on my fourth set of the Wtb's and just like Kellog's Frosties, "They're Great!!"

Brandon Els said on Twitter recently that Probike had gotten some LUST 29'' Crossmark tyres in try tweeting him @oldcootbiker to see if they have stock left

Spoke to Brandon Els this morning and the Crossmarks is only due to arrive last week of Jan 2011. Took the Bontragers back and got non UST Conti's fitted.

Front - 29x2.4 Mountain King

Rear - 29x2.2 Race King

It took a bit of patience getting the air in, but once seated, seams much better.

A ship of a bike is now also quite mean looking.

Now for the first ride on these.

Welcome to the fast side of riding :D

Just did the Sabie X on a double Race King Combo and no worries at all. Hell - some people even had mud specific tyres on Day 1. The Race Kings did their thing - hard pack - mud pack - whatever...

I'm not a fan of the Mountain King - it doesn't give good feedback - the knobblies are too big. My advice would be try a double Race King combo next - they roll super fast and are nice and predictable in the corners.

Ask anyone who got overtaken by a green Niner hard tail on the downhills ;)

Kenda Small Block 8

Dangle

Just bought a pair of Kenda Small Block Eights for my 29'er and was wondering whether you run yours tubeless and if so whether they hold their pressures well?

Running SB8 on the rear of my 29er,no problems inflating or sealing.I think it's more to do with the wheels you are running.American classic and stans rims will be no problem, other wheels with some type of conversion are going to be difficult.

Thanks Stringbean that was helpful (especially since I intend using them on Stans rims), what tyre you running up front?

Maxis Aspens which i got from CRC.Great tire, loads of grip. Before everyone gets on my case about cutting sidewalls ans slashing tires i'm one of those who believe that cutting sidewalls is mostly due to type of rider.I think i have only cut a sidewall once while some guys i ride with seem to do it on a regular basis regardless what tires they are using.Regarding 29er tire choice as one of the previous posters have said there are none true ust 29er tires yet.Tubeliss ready and specialized tubliss tires only have a tubeliss bead, sidewalls are the same of a normal tire.
