Well, mayhap this becomes  a weekly feature.  Unfortunately I  copied the wrong photos on my memory stick, so all I have right now is pics of a local hyena and some cops (love the hats)

the cops are fun here.  bribery is so rife.  you see them on the side of the road pulling all the larny cars over.  The basically demand money for nothing.  if they spot a foreigner off you go and you gotta haggle with them..

apparently the trick is to ask for a receipt... fortunately I've not got a car so thus far it's not a problem.  but it is entertaining listening to the folk from the ex-pat club

and a warning somewhere in the mountains.

what I don't get is that there aren't that many foreigners here, and most not even english, and yet this warning is in English......

there are *just a few* stray dogs around here.  there was a news report about an evicted elderly person that became supper for a gang/herd/group of stray dogs (what do you call a whole stray dogs roaming around on their own - a Pack?)

but the Hyena was so ugly he was cute.  I'd have taken him home if I was feeling vaguely interested in getting 27 skin diseases from him.  but shame, he was so scared....

And here is one of the famous and stylish apartment blocks, with a lovely autumn tree..... kind of poetic: the block is bleak, the tree is becoming bleak....

This was the view from our first flat.  Awesome mountains that just seem to go on forever.  Plenty of mtb opportunity if you got the lungs 'n legs for it.

It strange how the soviet era brought these massive square and dull apartment blocks, and here and there they missed some of the local and traditional stuff.  I mean, how cool is this building.  On the other hand, maybe it's all relative and anything not square and constructed from grey cement is awesome..
