the cheapest is i-bike.

a lot will now respond by saying , saving up and buy a pt.

you will get a i-bike almost new for about R2000 (i saw one here for R600. but not sure why)

the pt is just not only the yellow gadget, its wheels, spokes built on top of the meters price.

asked maruis, he knows the hole tutie about the cost.

bikemax and bruce is going to give you a salestalk first

your choice. smiley18.gif

"lowest amount you can spent on a power tap meter"

That was his question, not which one is beter than the other.

or misread I again this pommy taal?

I agree bikemax, if you have R30 - 60K to spend, go get the cranks as well. with a unlimited cheque book, I suggest you get 2 of the same carbon biuld backwheel 4 incase one needs to go for repairs etc.

Don't you think that he would want a piece of kit that is the cheapest - that also works consistently and with decent repeatability ?

Read his next post - "constant power reading to train with" - not going to get that from an Ibike I am afraid.

No need to spend more than R8k to get a quality, accurate device that will do the job - and with good support.

No need to be flippant thanks.

wat beteken daai woord "flippant"

Look it up.

By the way - have you seen the new updates Ibike have just launched at Interbike in order to cure the vibration problems that so badly affect the products accuracy and repeatability ? (Cost is about R2000 over and above main product)

Popeye, not sure where your comment comes from.  I don't sell power-meters.  As far as I'm concerned any power meter that is:

Reliable.

Consistent.

Accurate.

Easy to install and use.

Is a good choice (in fact, these are minimum requirements as far as I'm concerned).

I work with all the power meters.  I have just had a new Ergomo installed on my training bike after some of the teething problems that the product had, and am busy testing it for the distributor of the product.  I ride with powertaps because in my opinion it is currently the most cost effective meter that meets all the above criteria.  I also purchased an iBike to test and understand, there are quite a few developments that promise to improve the iBike, and I'll spend time working with the product to learn about it a bit better.

There are pro's and con's to all of these systems.  Just how much these pro's and con's mean to each individual is a matter of personal choice.

Ok, kan ek dan so se:

bruce, my "salestalk" is not ment that you sell the stuff, it was more about the "indepth" knowlegde about all aspevs and teck stuff.

I mean, go search the hub, you and bikemax go why over our heads with some of the detail.

not a bad thing, but a newby who do not understand or whatever only try the first and that is to find out whats available,

once he knowsm he will start asking value for money and those nice things.

i didn'r mean anything bad about my salestalk thing.

popeye, I agree with you completely.  It is disrespectful to publicly put down anyones product.  A lot of hard work goes into the development of these things and peole are trying to make a living.

This is the reason why I made sure that every manufacturer got equal airtime when we did the series on SuperCycling.  Only one manufacturer did not come to the party so their product could not be shown, all others were shown and information was given about their pro's and con's - which I believe is in the best interests of the people that would like to buy one of them.

If you search through the archives on this forum, you'll see that a while back I posted a whole document on the various power meters and their pro's and con's, in an attempt to provide information to people that were in the market.

Yes, you are right, the price of power meters range from around R4k to around R35k.  But there are reasons why this is the case.

Whilst we've got the Power Meter Guys attention - can I ask what you think of the Tacx power meters on their VR trainers, Esp. in respect to repeatability.

Thanks
