Weight limit for Shimano wheels...

I am using my dad's Shimano Wheels on my Scott, but I think they have a limit of weight they can carry. Seeing that I picked up about 13 KG's (I know a nightmare) I need to make sure that I can use the wheels before I dare to go out again....

 

The Wheelset is the Shimano WH-R550.

Will the 85.7KG kill the wheelset, or can I train with them?

I rode a pair of those when I was nearly 110kg. Dont sweat it.

About two years ago I spoke to Cool Heat about weight limits on wheels as I was buying. I was told that there was no weight limit on Shimano wheels. I bought Ultegra's and XT's and had no hassles, unlike my Bontrager Race Lites. I was over a 100 kg's then. I reckon you will be fine. Just don't stand up and pedal hard....

I rode those when I weighed over 100Kg's - I broke a front spoke during the Malmesbury Race - I have been nervous about the low spoke count but they did hold up well when I did use them.

 

They should be fine under your conditions man. Enjoy them. I have since gone to 32 Spoke wheels which I might add are lighter than the Shimano 550's.

 

p.s. The spoke broke after I stood up and took a few hard strokes up a hill.

(I weigh 86kg's of pure racing muscle by the way)

 

Shimano is one of the very few that doesnt have rider weight limits, even on their deep section tubbies. Their wheels are built bomb proof.

Not a 'wheelset' per say. Got Ultegra hubs, double butted spokes and Mavic CXP21 rims.

I had a pair of those and we didnt get on very well at all.

I weigh 100kg.

 

I recently went through the wheel search and buying process and spoke to someone @ Coolheat about Shimano wheels and rider weight limits.

 

His response:

Most wheel manufactures don’t give a wheel limited but from our experience we have found that people over 85 kg should not ride factory built wheel sets.

 

 

So, to answer your question, you will be fine on those wheels.

I am a hard stroker... I broke a the BB set of my gary Fisher and the one of my Giant Peleton as well. I am a climber and not made for downhills, so I will try to take it slow...
