At around 5:30 this morning in Malvern (near Bedfordview) I came across a commuter riding a very neat looking Specialised S-Works. When I say neat, it was red & white, very clean and obviously very well cared for. No scratches, no dirt. I said "nice bike" and he looked at me then battled with gears, crossed the road and rode against the traffic for a while ..... deffinitely not 100% kosher.

Do you ride the route often? If so, maybe the guy will be back again? Maybe go through to the police station and see if the theft of the bike has been reported?

Was he circumsized? If not then you are probably correct that he was not kosher :lol:

He'd probably just change his route for a while, he obviously uses his bike to commute, don't think he stop entirely. Depending on how active the local cops are, it would be a case of asking the patrol at that time of the morning to focus on the area your saw the bike. Find out what shift will be on and speak to the shift commander, or even the head of crime prevention. Can't hurt to try.

I doubt if the cops would even look into it. If you see the same guy driving a Ferrari do you think the cops would care? I saw a "commuters" wife driving a Ferrari convertible, should I report her?

Perhaps they wouldn't but then again if you don't ask you don't know. It is going to hurt to try? I think there's a bit of difference between a 'commuter' as described in the original post and someone driving a ferrari, not sure what you're trying to say here? If the cops are proactive, and many are, they'll do what they can.

i see alot of high spec'd bikes on the road in suburbs...

in use by low-->no-income commuters.

each time i first make sure its not one of my own bikes they pedaling around on...

i think the cops have their hands full with murders and armed robberies and bicycles are not on their morning agenda.

Patrol vehicles patrol, detectives detect, crime prevention drink coffee. Nothing wrong with asking the patrol vehicle to keep an eye out for this and that.

If a cop stopped one of you Hubbers out on a ride with your expensive bike could you prove ownership on the spot? I doubt it. Even if the cop came home with me I couldn't prove ownership, we would have to go to the bike shop and the owner could confirm that I bought it brand new. If it was a second hand bike then I expect proving ownership would be impossible.

I think it would be up to the cops to prove that it was not the cyclists bike and to do that they would have to link the bike to an existing police docket.
