Hi

Just sold my Adidas evil eyes and am looking to either get a pair of rudy projects or Oakleys.

Whats your thoughts?

Is it just personal preferance or are the Rudy's/Oakleys better in a certian way like lenses etc?

don't know if oakleys have the same features, but the Rudy's with impactX lenses are really unscratchable. Especially cool for MTB if you ride into low hanging branches or for the occational "moer off your bike"

The photochromic lenses (gets dark only if you the light is bright) are also cool and especially convenient for rides starting early mornings, late afternoons or when night-riding!

Only downside is that you don't get the Photochromic lenses in a "polarized" version as far as I'm aware!

I got a pair of Rudy's for my birthday a few years ago and doubt if I would consider something else in future.

I own both Rudy Project Rydon (photochromic) and Oakley Jawbones (polarized) and they are both great. I use the Rudy for early morning rides due to the photochromic lenses, which are clear in the dark, and changes to shades as the sun comes up, and the Jawbones for day time riding in the sun because of the great polarized lenses. If you can, get both, or choose the one that suits your riding schedule, and your face.

I have a pair of photochromic polarized lenses for my rydon.

However I also had a pair previously with only Photochromic. The Photocromic part does not work so well with the polirazation compared to only photochromic.

My girlfriends mom got the Rudy Project rydons with photocromic lenses...I looked at them aswell, very nice pair of sunnies and will perhaps get me some. I currently use the Oakley Racing jackets, LOVE THEM! Very comfy, not a lot of wind getting in blowing into your eyes...

In the end I will think it is about personal preferance.

Based purely on opinion I would say the oakley lenses are slightly better. When i bought new glasses two months ago I wanted something that I could wear while riding and casually, the jawbones don't look lekker on me so I went with the split jackets with polarized iridium lenses + spare low light pair.

Before ordering online, go fit a pair at a sunglasses hut

I am with atraut on this one. I too have both the Rudy's and Oakleys and use them at different ride times, early morning and evening rides, the Rudy, cause they will adapt to the light conditions.

Long days in the saddle, I opt for my Jawbones as my eyes feel better witht he Oakley lenses.

Personal preference all the way though. Go for what looks good on you and suites your riding more.

I also thought so, my lenses are scratched a bit, rode with my Rydon's in my back shirt pocket on a rainy day and there are two round "scuff" marks. BTW: Can you "buff or polish" photochromatic lenses with Brasso and the like. I have used brasso to take scratches of watch faces and other non coated sunglass lenses....

Thanks, valuable input, best to buy online?

Pricing will more than likely be cheaper online, but you need to know what they will look like on. Someone suggested going into Sunglass Hut and find the glasses that suite you best, good advice. Then go buy online

Have been checking online and it seems that the rudy's are definitely cheaper than the Oakleys across the model ranges

Here is my experiance with the Rudi's,

1. Probably the most comfy I have ever had,

2. due to their design sweat drips on them which did not happen with my old glasses (but i think this has to do more with physiology than the galsses design)

3. The clear photochromic lenses are great for early morning or cloudy winter days (not so great in bright sunlight) Had to buy another set of dark photocrhomic lenses for brighter rides.

4. They are scratchable, but pretty much indestructable, you could step on them bounce on them and it will still be in one peace.

5. ojn average 1.5-2k cheaper than oakleys

6. look a hell of a lot better than oaklies and you can weat them as normal day to day sunnies if you have the dark tinted lenses, most people look like retards in a pair of jawbones driving a car. (yes yes flame me i have it comming to me)

But thats my 20cents.

Try them on at a store...and then buy online.

Am I the only one who thinks that this is just plain wrong?

One of the reasons bricks and mortar places are more expensive is that they must hold stock, and let people try stuff on. So you go and try stuff on...and then order elsewhere.

Apply this to your line of work and see how it tastes...
