The best MTB you can buy for your girlfriend, is the on the one that she is most comfortable on. take her down to your LBS and get her to look and feel a few. Then look at the ones she likes, compare specs and price and then make a decision

I went through the same exercise a while back. I asked a number of my female friends for their input on it. Pretty much all of them said that you don't need a women's specific bike.

Just make sure you get the right size. ;)

hahaha its all good, my Ghost will haunt me even more then, but my misus on the other hand would probably castrate me. . . . eish being involved with a vet can be quite dangerous, they do it for a living hahaha.

Back 2the bikes, have a serious look at the Ghost dual sus's, they are awesome

womens spes bikes are a load of crap, the only things they do is shorten the handle bars and put on a ladies specific seat. If you look at most of the girls that take it seriously they ride with men's seat, but with the cutout. And just buy a normal bike have the LBS measure your GF's shoulders so that they know how much to cut the bars to make the bike fit her.

For realtly short ladies, i.e. 1.65 meters or shorter WS bike makes sense. Friend of mine could not fit on a S bike such as a Mongoose or Scott. But the XS Scott worked really well for her.

dude Aylex Cross rides a flippen niner and she is short. WS bikes are just decals that make it look flowery and girly. For a extra small bike you have to like 4"1. Best bet is to take your girl for a bike fitting. so they measure her inseam and get a bike with the correct top tube length.
