Hi all I see the seeding for the Cape Cobra is out on PPA.

Now they tell us to do harder races to better our seeding like the Cape Cobra. I know it was only 85kms (not 100kms for a 34% weighting) but a very tough 85kms. How can they only make it a 10% weighting it had more elevation than the Argus?

Ok got a bit quick on the draw I see they have just changed it to 34%. Thanks PPA

I think you're confused... my cape cobra counts 34% towards seeding

HOWEVER - they adjusted the winners time down to 2:10:30 from 2:14:48

Hi did you not read the whole post? At the time I wrote the post it was at 10 % 5 minutes later they changed to 34%. Dont know how to delete the post.

So the one race in the year that they want us to do to improve our seeding, they go and knock 4 minutes off it still.

Yes, I am sure the giro guys would have averaged 40.......

If they were on motorbikes!!!!

From PPA web site:

So we adjust the winner's time and calculate a difficulty factor “beta”.  This makes the gap between the winner and you count less in difficult conditions and more in easy conditions.

So obviously they think cobra was easy :)

I know whats happened. PPA have allowed too many cyclists to enter league. This means the pretty much everyone riding league improved their seeding. PPA doesnt want 3/4 of the riders in A/B groups, so they continually adjust the results to suit them

Dude, this year within SV I finished 10 places up on last year - 14th out of 70 odd SV's - a minute and a bit off the SV winners time, yet my seeding index for this year is an 11. something and last year 6. something.

Of course the reason is that the Elite bunch overall went so much faster than the SV bunch. But the way the system works, Elite riders who probably only managed to hang on to the bunch until Simonstown, finished over 10 minutes behind the race winner, get a better seeding index than me.

That's why we need more TT events to get an accurate indication of how fast guys are when there are no wheels to suck.

I agree my biggest problem is they dont take into account where you started from. I'm a L rider but I started with my friend in N. Did a sub 3 hr and they give me a seeding for this race of I. My freind I cam first and second in N, I won L came 16/43 in H, 11/32 in I and 5/41 in J. Can they not see that we had to ride on our own with no wheel suck to make that time? So they give me a seeding of I but I would have come mid pack in G 20/35 so how does that work?

As I've said before - currently it will be all but impossible to move up to A or B groups. Or I must join the Elites and try to stick with them!

My time in the Cobra was 2h19 and that gives me a seeding of C. This was the best chance to up my seeding, but the Elites went to fast or SV too slow or both.

On the PPA website the formula is (my time / adjusted winning time - 1) / beta x 100 = index

For me then: (149 / 130.5 - 1) / beta x 100 = 11.57956 which means the beta = 1.224247. Fandacious, where do you get your beta from?

Thus, you had to ride under 2h25 to get a B number. Damn I should have worked in front

 +1....same here... 24mins for the Cobra & over 25 for Ride4. The One Tonner my result seeded as a F; the other 2 seeded races I'm a I...so stay at I.

Need more longer races and yes I've bought a MTB !

Yup, I've busted my b@lls over winter, to get the seeding thing going. Improved all times over all distances (F seeded for One Tonner and a good DC ) but didn't work. So MTB it is :D :D

BTW I have an EZ 4 u, just let me know....I'm based in Bree Street now, so won't be out your way much.
