For me then: (149 / 130.5 - 1) / beta x 100 = 11.57956 which means the beta = 1.224247. Fandacious, where do you get your beta from?

firstly, you rode 2h29m02, not 2h19

Secondly, you don't take the adjusted time AND the beta value.

If you have the beta value in your calc, then you work with the original time. If you have the adjusted time, then your beta is 1

your sum is as follows (i'm working in seconds - its more accurate)

(((8942/ 8084) - 1) / 0.99325) * 100 = 10.6856860

with beta = 1 (no adjustment)

(((8942/ 8084) - 1) / 1) * 100 = 10.61355764

what did PPA give u as a ride index?

trust me, this is the answer. I know guys seeded A because they are strong on the mountain, but in road races they cannot hang on to B.

Yep and it ends up being unfair then too.

I get poop scared when going downhill.

So everyone that I can outclimb, they come flying past me on the downs, so there it is the person with the biggest balls will get the good seeding.

Yup, I've busted my b@lls over winter, to get the seeding thing going. Improved all times over all distances (F seeded for One Tonner and a good DC ) but didn't work. So MTB it is :D :D

BTW I have an EZ 4 u, just let me know....I'm based in Bree Street now, so won't be out your way much.

Cool, I will drop you a sms if I decide to ride.

BTW 2, I probably need to grow some bigger balls and start doing more MTB as well.

It is just everytime I hit the mountain, I always end up hitting the mountain and all of the scars I carry have been from the few blimming mtb rides I do.

Sorry mis-typed the 2h29 (but used correct 2h29 minutes of 149 in calculation).

Ok so not both adjusted AND beta. My index according to PPA was 11.5796

You just need to perfect your crashing technique. What you are experiencing is fear of poor crashing.

Furthermore, when crashing large balls are a disadvantage. Really you want to be able to be able to tuck your nuts in a bit to keep them out of the impact zone.

PPA website says:

The formula is: (your time / adjusted winner's time - 1) / beta value and then expressed as a percentage

- Meaning they take into account both adjusted winner's time and beta, because both are in the formula above?

So if the adjusted winner's time is 3:20 and your time is 4:00, then your index for the event is (240/200 - 1) = 0.2 = 20%.

- But in the next line's example formula above they only use the adjusted winner's time. But then again when they show actual race examples they use both adjusted winners time and beta. Go check it out.

Excuse the technical questions; I like to understand things :)

aaaah... it is possible that they have a different beta value for every person.

Because the beta value which works perfectly for my ride index, doesnt work out 100% for your ride index. So it looks like they are manually adjusting each riders seeding

Why even bother with a formula then?

well, here we go again...

journey for sight: i knock off about 15mins on my time from last year - result: still seeded in the same group.

cape cobra: knock off 26mins from my previous year's time - result: still seeded in the same group.

i need a drink...

I think that the biggest problem is that in the PPA bases everything on weather conditions and terrain. They do not account at all for improvement in fitness of riders thus they are posting better times than say a year ago or three months ago.

They then compare your index to the supposed gold standard( flawed Argus data) and they conclude that it cant be that you improved but the race was to easy therefore decrease your index dramatically. The model then does not encourage improvement rather it discourages it.

the case in point is the indeces people got for Engen 2009 and Burger 2009. while i think there was a difference in the weather conditions the wide variance in index between similar times is difficult to explain.

I don't laaik the mud and dust of MTBing.

Prefer to socialise.

So, don't see that as an option to exercise to boost my 'ranking'.

PPA seeding is a joke. Bring on the time trials and hill climb TT's. Then we can talk seeding.

110% Luke,What I do not understand is I normally finish in the first third of my group and always within the first half however my seeding for those particular events are almost always two groups lower than my current group.Secondly the adjusted winners time has to be an achievable winning time , which n some cases is not at all.

The net result being the Elite winner in some cases is not even getting an A seeding for winning the event.

PPA is losing huge credibility , at this rate the back markers will have double letter seeded no's.
