Hi guys,

Do cycling clubs allow visiting cyclists from other towns to join them on group rides?

Is there a procedure or cost associated?

Which clubs around the country are most open to visitors over the December holidays?

Most clubs are cool with out of town'ers joining them and are quite welcoming. Oh, and no, there is no cost.

Just let someone know, preferably a marshall, that you are joining them. That way they know you are part of the group and will wait for you and support you in case of mechanicals etc. If you are wearing a different kit they may not all know you are part of the group, particularly if there are a lot of riders out.

Out of towners are expected to do all the work on the front, and not to partake in any racing shenanigans. It is also nice if they carry snacks for the other riders.

I will be in Illovo in December.

Any organized rides around there.

Or should I leave the bike home?

Illovo JHB? Thats where i work, and cycle from in the mornings. Im sure we will be riding through December.

Go check www.cyclesafe.co.za and check out the start times and routes. You are more than welcome to join us if you want. Wink
