Hi Guys,

Does anybody know what the temperature of water must be for a wetsuit to be allowed at Grabouw.

Has it happened before that suits were not allowed,if that's the case I'll surely drown!!

Actually found the race rules:

1. Swim

1.1. Wetsuits: are allowed based on water temperature measured the day prior to the event and confirmed on the day of the event.

Pro/Elite Athletes: Wetsuits are allowed for pro athletes if the water temperature is below 68 degrees Fahrenheit (20 degrees Centigrade).

Age Group Athletes: Wetsuits are allowed for age group athletes if the water temperature is below 72 degrees Fahrenheit (22 degrees C)

The water is really not that cold in the dam. Last year hardly anyone swam with a wetsuit, but yes, it was close to 40 outside. This year the start is muuuuuuch earlier!

But some of us use that rubber for more than keeping warm

Amen, don't mind the cold, don't want to sink.I swim like a dream with a suit, without it I can't swim at all!wetsuits are like the doping of swimming!!!

did this event last year.there was no reason(from temp wise)to use a wetsuit.I think that last year you might have died coming out of the water towards T2 if wetsuit was your choice.tough race and at Grabouw many/all mtb routes go up and up some more.

Is it just me or is this event another one of those VERY expensive ones ? In general it seems the Stillwater attitude is you bend we send !

ja, they charge a premium. but the demand is (somehow) still there. they actually hiked the price from R60 to R260 the one year and still got increased entrants!

think it is something to do with the fact that if the word 'triathlon' is involved you need to pay royalties to the pope.
