I wanted to find out just how many people cycle and run without wearing socks ?

I have just got myself a pair of Mavic triathlon cycling shoes and am keen on trying them out especially now that I only have 1 strap to worry about. The one thing that struck me is ok you got your fancy shoes what about the socks ?

Well how often do you race? If you train use road shoes. the few races a year shouldnt make them stink, and wearing socks defeats the object as that would take up all the time you would gain with your new tri shoes.

I MTB every weekend without socks.

I find that riding without socks is more comfortable, especially when you get muddy.

I wash my shoes every time i use them and they do not smell at all.

I will only use socks if i am running more than 10km. the friction and moisture become a bit too much and lead to blisters.

Short distance tri no socks - Iron Man definitely socks.

Tri cycling shoes are also specifically made to allow water to run out of them after the swim. As for running you never want to run with wet feet it is a recipe for blisters.

Ok heres another question. off road adventure racing - if I buy myself a pair of salomon shoes and intend running through rivers etc etc a bit like Xterra (12km's) do you wear socks ? if so anything in particular ? (just not those R140 Look socks :D )

since i got my LG tri shoes i NEVER wear socks, even for 150k + training rides, i have gotten to the point of not being able to ride with socks cause it feels weird. i also run 30 + km's without socks, you get blisters the first 4 or 5 runs but after that your skin toughens up, i am saving a lot of money on socks that get holes in very quickly, even the 'run' specific socks don't last very long. just get a good shoe powder for the hygiene purposes :)
