I still support CRC, I think the locals must catch a wake up.

Both my hobby's (cycling and RC heli's/planes) revolve around buying 95% of goods on line.

for RC its hobbyking.com and for cycling its CRC.

Frankly these guys have their heads up their arses with this kind of whining:

  1. The distributor promotes the product in specialised magazines and trade fairs, sponsors riders, etc.
  2. The local shop has the product in stock, puts his energy and effort on developing it, promotes it and shows it in his shop.
  3. Thanks to the previous work from the distributors and small shops the customer is convinced that this particular product is what he wants to buy.
  4. And now comes the “wise guy” with the connivance from the brands. After all the efforts made by the distributors to convince the shops and the shops to convince their customers, we have a situation where this low-cost online shop uses magazines and the Internet to reach the customer and let him know that what he wants is cheaper on his low-cost online shop.

Specialised magazines, trade fairs and sponsored riders have zero impact on what I buy. I research products the same place I buy them - online - and the distributor has nothing to do with it. In fact when I have had to deal with distributors over locally bought products with warranty issues they ignore my emails and it takes months for problems to be resolved. Trying to sort out a warranty on a frame at the moment and I am on the verge of flaming this brand online out of frustration.

The market forces will sort this one out. Eventually distributors and LBS's will realise they cannot compete with online shops on the commodities. If a guy knows what he wants and is willing to wait for shipping it will always be cheaper online with the current distribution setup we have in SA.

Shops should focus on the intangibles that international online shops cannot compete with - service, product knowledge and local events.

Sour grapes! Pathetic!

Go CRC!

Why CRC? There's many other shops who often have even lower prices than CRC...

The initiator states that this is not a price fixing attempt, but what is it then?

I've looked around but there are few to beat the overall range in the stuff that matters to me, and on my average basket, I'm satisfied that I'm getting a good deal most- if not all the time.

To me, convenience, one-stop shopping, good to great overall pricing and good service when I need it (I'm a veteran of nearly 70 orders over four years!) make CRC a winning customer value proposition. I personally couldn't be bothered to do bits and pieces trying to get the lowest price on every item - it's the overall package that counts most in my mind!

Hmmm I agree with supporting local but then those involved must come to the table as well. Drop half the import duties for the importers so they can sell at a better price so the saving can be passed on etc. but until the local market can be competitive CRC will still get orders. CWC have come close and maybe beaten some of CRCs prices so guys buy there which is local, but if a guy feels ripped off he will go to where he can save.

I agree but why does a Morewood cost so much? I know its a great bike but it is local.

Do the local guys also jump on the band wagon or do they think if it cost less people will think it cheap?

Wow the world loves the global village and free markets but as long as they speak the "approved" language. Christian Tidow should come and see some local boys for tips on collusion!!

I boycott this boycott, hahaha!

but yeah price and product is what gets my support. Not only are the local prices insane most of the time (there are times that they beat CRC)... but also local bike shops don't cater for my kind of bikes (DH & FR). Most of the stuff I want isn't available here, so of course I'll go where I can get exactly what I want and for a good price.

You'll probably get it quicker from CRC than you would from a physical bricks&mortar shop in this country.!

What a lot of bullsh*t! Why must I be forced to pay higher prices, only to support local business.Recently I had to source some parts from CRC (a complete FSA K-Force cockpit) because I could not get it locally. Had my mind set on the K-Force for my S-Works, so after consulting a few local shops, the one who actually did my frame, group and the built advised me to shop at CRC, because of availability of parts. CRC is fast, cheap and sufficient...nuff said. They will also get my business in future.

Did you see this? CRC is annoying the world and they are taking action.

I personally prefer supporting local industry and not sending money to the UK, because I want backup and support and want the industry in SA to be healthy.

Hawu wena!

They cant close doors. Still need to buy my Lynskey twisted 29er Ti frame

Hi,

I will also support the person with the best price and I am happy to see that I am not the only one. I would however preferr to spend my money locally if the price was right.
