How many old socks do you use? I've got a lot of clothes to wash.

You don't put everything in the socks. Only the two shoes and socks normally comes in pairs of two.

How do you guys clean your cycling shoes? I have new very white shoes and they got dirty from riding in the rain. Any advice?

buy an extra pair in black and wear that when it rains!

machine wash will stuff them up eventually.

Road shoes: wet cloth with a little soap, usually when the bike gets washed. Also get a set of shoe covers to ride with, keeps dirty road water spray off your shoes.

Mountain bike: if you have white mountain bikes shoes then the problem lies elsewhere. :o

Cloth soap water - MTB shoes should never be too clean anyway. Taking care of MTB shoe smell is another problem entirely...

Oh yes. I got a new pair of white Sidi's while I was in Lisbon- too beautiful to resist- my Christmas present to me. But they're WHITE MTB shoes. So I get back to a near flood situation in Moz, and the puddles are like, 100m long with nowhere else to go but through. To see them get caked was painful. But I got home, got a bucket and the omo out with a small nail brush, and eish, they came out like brand new, handwashed. I've since done the Barberton and some other muddy training routes and a light wash keeps them new.

I use a soft sponge/brush and washing powder dedtergent in a bucket of water.

Then rinse all the soap of afterwards and let dry.

Thanks guys, plenty of food for thought. My brand new Ergo2's got smashed at the Herald this weekend, just sand, mud and cowsh!t everywhere on the route. Most of the shoe is made of the Vernice type thing, that just wipes clean, I'm worried about the fabric and the velcro parts. You reckon OMO is safe? Or just old style green soap?

? I thought roadies didn't ride in the rain?s

When else will we get the chance to use your training bikes, neoprene booties, neoprene gloves, rain jackets and all that other fancy gear that keeps us dry?

The last time I had so much mud stuck in the cleat etc I just took out the inner and washed the shoes with a high pressure hose and hang them up to drie. It took out every little piece of mud and dirt.

No, misunderstood.

Just simply stating to hose it down was quite easy. They dry quite quick and the high pressure will clean your white shoe very well. Luckily my MTB shoes are black.
