Has anybody read the latest CAR magazine?  There is a bit of a argument arising between a cyclist and some guy who seems to claim the road as his.  I agree we shouldn't take over the road when there is only two or three guys/ladies on a training ride but damn.....if you are thirty or so in a group....what should we do.??

On this, why does NO-ONE moan about the runners!!!!????  saw a lot running 3 abreast near the suspension bridge in Bedfordview this morning, and the chic just flipped the bird to a motorist who hooted at them.  Why not nail them as well?

valid point but i suppose the runners are protected under pedestrian law....hit one of them and you will know all about it....hit a cyclist and you get off.  I don't know the law very well but it seems that we are not as protected as pedestrians are??

I think it has more to do with the ATTITUDE of the cyclists.

As a runner and a cyclist, I have found in general runners (maybe because they are much slower) tend to obey the rules of the road much more than cyclists, who sad to say in general have a crappy attitude.

Perhaps its the "herd mentality" because they ride in bunches they feel invincible, are full of false bravado and feel its okay to do as they like, but cyclists on their own tend to be more compliant with the rules of the road.

Sadly notAngry.  A guy fell asleep behind the wheel and he killed two runners. He was ?very sorry? in court and got off with a slap on the rist (R10000 fine).Dead <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I suppose it is also easier for a runner to run a relatively long distance within their neighbourhood or via the less busy roads.  Here we come and make use of the road and tom dick and harry in their german sports cars think that we are hogging the road.  How many of our roads these days have a shoulder or yellow line that is 1.5 meter wide.  If it was like that all over it would be easier for us all.

life in this country has become very cheap... kill... and so what!!!Angry but dare defend yourself and hurt your attacker, then you're in deep shyte!! Can't remember where I said it, (here or runner'sworld) - a car's is a weapon, if used irresponibly you can use it to kill... But topic wise, its not CAR magazine, its a reader of CAR magazine, there's probably a disclaimer saying CAR is not responsible for the opinions/views raised by reader and staff...

Problem with cyclists such as Capri Cycling (about 20 persons)on Sunday sends out bad vibes for all cyclists. They would not move off of the Randfontein road on Sunday so that other cyclists could continue in the yellow lane (while waiting for a puncture to be repaired)then they rode four to five abreast in the left lane all the way through Florida on Ondekkers road with no care for the motorists or other cyclists on the road.

mallo, as a cyclist I have a HATE of that club.  They are the worst group you can dream of!!  Same happens on the East Rand.  They skip red lights, and then flip the bird if the drivers get cross or taunt them.  It's probably the only guys where I won't feel sorry for them if they're hit by a car!

those are the guys that give all cyclists a bad name....if you ride like that you deserve to be injured.  not saying it should happen but you are more likely to be hit....you should all come and ride here in the garden route area.  went out yesterday morning and had a truck come from behind.  he gave us a small hoot just to let us know that he was coming...we thanked him and gave another hoot and we were all happy....Wink

MBB, it does happen here, but not very often.  E.g. the golden trucks and Spiros Transport in the south.  They do the same.

maybe we should start approaching our local government for a dedicated lane for cycling...about 1.5m should be enough I suppose.  just a thought
