Also, it sounds more like one of those emails that people send around that has no substance or proof to it. It causes a great hype and then dissapears...till next year when it's the email's turn to do the rounds again.

yeah agree 100% its bad enough that its being discussed here

I take a slip for R10 or R1000 petrol. It all goes into a file and at least you are able to show where money went should you ever need to.

It's being discussed here becuase some dude asked wether it could be true or not. I personaly can't see it being true, but stranger things have happened here in the last couple of years !

Heard the same thing regarding receipts at the toll booths - don't know whether it is true though.

Yup always ask for and take your toll booth slip. Theoperator then cannot cheat by keeping the cash and claim a computer fault. They come up with amazing schemes these people in the booths.

I always take a slip as I use it but the Taxi's are usually first one that complain when petrol price goes up.

For them petrol is running expense so they can claim more expenses if they have more slips.

However you get a lot of guys that claim fraudulent km's on their vechiles for tax.

If you did not lie on your tax form I would say you have the right to complain here.

They do have all day too think about things, so not surprising.

Is it illegal to do it, yes, are the taxi drivers, petrol attended doing it then, YES! When it comes to f***ing around, striking, breaking the law, they're KING!

You know those emails that you see being sent around about 200 million times a year about some poor kid who needs 100 million dollars for an opperation or she's going to die unless of course you forward this email onto everyone in your address book, or the one about how bill gates gives you USD10 per email address you forward an email to?

well this is one of those! what the hell stops a cashier behind the counter from re printing these slips and then selling or giving these slips to the taxi driver? or as another hubber pointed out, just printing fake slips? if this is in-fact happening by us insisting on the slip will in no way curb the problem.

And as for swiping the card twice at a toll road.... um wouldn't the toll company then get the cash and not the cashier? because surely that goes directly through their system? and I'd imagine the number of times the boom is opened is compared to whats in the kitty at the end of the day and they need to balance.

Hubbers,

The e-mail could be true or not, there is definitely scope in the system for this kind of fraud.

The other alternative is that the e-mail is another one of the e-mail address harvesting mails, just like the petition against the closure of the SAPS Child Protection Unit, the little girl with leukemia that AOL, Microsoft etc will sponsor - to name but a few the list is endless. They target issues close to one's heart or wallet and bank on the fact that most people forward e-mails without removing all the cc'd e-mail addresses. Check the e-mail address for sending the petition onto if you are the 100th etc person next time you receive one of those - it does not work.

On the matter of toll booths - watch out for the N4 east toll stations from Pretoria! Have stopped using a card altogether on any of them, just cash. Have had several problems with them w.r.t. double payments AND they only bank transactions anything between 7-10 days which means there is a delay on it coming of your account.

I have witnessed petrol attendants pocketing cash after a vehicle had thrown in a set amount, and drove off without asking for a slip. Once a slip is printed the transaction is closed, and the money registers as being in the till. Garages suffer quite heavy losses due to this form of fraud.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha....... wait lemme get my breath... BWAHAAHAHAHAHAA

I've never heard such crap in my life.

Do you really think any retail operator (incl petrol stations) don't have control measures in place, and that once the pump is used, the usage just dissappears into thin air. its all tracked and logged. dont be daft

ffs - stop talking out your arse

You are right but what they do is swipe your card twice, take the next guy's cash and bobs-your-aunty.
