As far as i know it was due to UCI regulation because of safety but has been changed so there are a few of the newer Cyclo cross bikes coming out with disk brakes.

Disk setup will prolly be about 700g at the lightest and Road rim brakes prolly around 250g Huge difference to roadies.

Even on MTB the V brakes still remain for the weight weenies.

I reckon disk breaks will be commonplace on road bikes in future. It especially makes sense on bikes using carbon rims that suffer from overheating problems on long descents.

Guess they will be cable activated to work with Sti.

Where was that picture taken? Did you see that in person? If so, you lucky bugger!! What did it look like in the flesh so to speak? I have been drooling over that bike for months... It was designed by F1 engineers that were aparently given a blank canvas and asked to forget all the bicycle standards. Obviously it isn't UCI compliant but cool non the less!

I read an article recently on what various people in the cycling world foresee for the future and disc brakes on road bikes was one of the things mentioned. But then the UCI would probably have to change a stack of rules relating to bike design which could take ages since they now have nothing better to do than haggle over radios.

It was at the Science Museum in London (by far my favourite museum ever) last year in July. It was part of a special exhibition on the ways F1 technology influences every day life.

It's a bit funny-looking in the flesh. Really cool technology, but the looks just didn't appeal to me.
