Hi Nicolene

Any update on the route this year or will it be the same as last years?

Thanks!

Event Name: Amarider 100miler Ultra Marathon

When: 21 May 2011

Where: Malmesbury, Swartland, Western Cape

Category: MTB

South Africa’s top mountain bikers and marathon junkies will once again be seen testing their endurance levels during the awe-inspiring AMArider 100Miler, taking place for the third year!

This adrenaline pumping event will start & finish in Malmesbury, and will this year give other riders a taste of the route with a shorter option of about 60km.

The 160km route is divided into three sections of approximately 60km with three compulsory timing checkpoints. The point-to-point format of the race will also create perfect vantage points for spectators and supporters. This one day ultra marathon has a ‘solo rider’ category as well as teams of 4 riders.

DATE: Saturday, 21 May 2011

TIME: 07h30

DISTANCE: 160km

Shorter option of 60km

This exciting route has been developed with the co-operation of local farmers and landowners, who gave permission for the organisers and cyclists to have access to their properties. This type of support forms the foundation of Amarider, which endeavours to bring new routes to riders and new riders to existing routes.

For more information and route maps, visit www.amarider.co.za or phone 021 8844 752.

I'm "Not so Brave" this year, decided to do the 50Miler instead. So I'll be joining you on Saturday.

Any other Hubbers doing the 50Miler ?

How fit does one have to be just to finish within cut-off. My longest ride before this was 2 x 100 at the Lighthouse 2 Lighthouse. Think i'm a bit fitter than i was back then...

Any advice to a noob??

Fairly fit because it is far, although it isn't technical.

I would say start slowly (don't get carried away by the vibe and all the excitement at the start) and pace yourself. Rather finish fast than blow towards the end. Keep eating and drinking - its a long day in the saddle. If you don't have tubeless, don't take shortcuts through the fields when the arrows direct you to stay on the jeep track around the edges of the fields. :)

the L2L was easy. Expect to do almost twice the time. It is harder than it looks. especially after the last waterpoint. thats last couple of climbs can be quite tough if you are not feeling well by that point
