Who has done it before?

Do you have a profile for the 80k Route?

Any thoughts?

Don't have the profile on file but remember it well. Its rolling bush veld for the most part, gentle climbs, one big climb (Walk) towards the end then one awesome downhill back home! Thats it its the same route as last year, they seem to change it around from year to year.

All is reasonably rolling until you hit the Castrol Stop (Used in all the Castrol Ads) Then from what I remember is two huge climbs (pretty much unridable with traffic / generally) then a hell decent littered with kopie rocks so not really rewarding unless you have a huge travel dual suss.

It is a tester on the legs - dont let the first 35km fool you into thinking its gonna be like that all the way !

there's been quite a few threads about this race before, so do a search and you'll find millions of opinions. Some love it, some hate it. Bottom line, its tough and technical in some sections, but also has lots of stock standard dirt road. I'm one of the guys who loves it, even if its only for those rocky descents!!! :)

Does any one Know what the Winning time/Speed for the 35km ride is?

Not sure but it is easy as pie. Should be in the 1.30odd bracket

Winning time on the 35km was 1:15 with the last rider coming in exactly 3 hours later.

3:19 winning time for the 80km with the last rider in at a tad over 7 hours.

will it be the same route as last year ?

Don't know, but should be similar. Last year we rode the 2009 route in reverse, with a couple of changes here and there. Profile wise it should be roughly the same.

if im not mistaken I think you might be able to change your entry to a longer one at registration and pay in the difference?

I defently remember there being posters/pages up telling one they can change their 80 to a 35 but cant remember if one can do it the other way around?
