he's not riding the Vuelta this year.

He didnt ride last year either, I wonder why, home race, home crowd...a bit surprising.!

Anyway, it leaves the gate open for Nibali to defend his title, so its not all bad.

How many pro cyclists do all three grand tours in the same year? Pretty sure it doesn't happen that often...

I think he was asked (and payed alot of money) not to win this year just incase he was found guilty. Imagine stripping him of 2 titles. It will bring the TdF down like a led balloon.

Phooew, interesting thought that Andre. I hope not, I sincerely do, but yeah, interesting.

Man, I can just imagine that hypothetical conversation - "Lissen up 'Berto, we have enough c**p on our plate already, what with doping, French Labs, American influence and unresolved CAS issues, can you imagine what will happen if you come along and win again......I could lose my shirt here, you understand dont you, I have a family and a pension and I dont have the energy for another scandel, so I have a suggestion,... why dont you just get stuck behind a crash or two, then fall off and claim an injury, attack a bit later and make it a spectacle, finish in the top 5, thats still good man,..... but c'mon man, please dont win anything, you can come back later and win the next 10, we dont care, but have mercy man,....please, just lose this one.!! :D

Yeah, its an interesting thought, and as I said I really, really hope not but......it happens in other sports, so we would be naive to think it cant or wont happen in cycling, wouldnt we.?

Nibali will defend his title so Liquigas will be out in force. Mosquerra will also be looking for one position better, so he will be there. I like the Vuelta, it has its own flavour and as I have always said, the prettiest podium girls. :D

Contador must be kicking himself. He should have said mexico...

Danish cycling union had dismissed charges citing contaminated Mexican meat

The World Anti-Doping Agency has withdrawn its appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the dismissal of charges that Danish rider Philip Nielsen doped with Clenbuterol. WADA has apparently accepted Nielsen's contention that he ate contaminated meat whilst racing in Mexico.

Nielsen, then riding for the Continental-ranked team Concordia Forsikring-Himmerland, had won the final stage of the Vuelta a Mexico in April 2010 when he tested positive. The results of the doping control were not announced until January of this year, at which point the team released him.

In March of this year, the Danish cycling federation said it would not sanction him, ruling that the substance came from contaminated food and that Nielsen was not negligent or at fault. WADA appealed that decision to CAS, but has now withdrawn its appeal.

Nielsen had denied using the product and claimed he must have ingested it from contaminated food from the buffet at his hotel in Mexico. He joined the Christina Watches team in May, and is currently looking for a contract for the coming season.

WADA also withdrew its appeal in a similar case concerning five Mexican football players. WADA said that it had “received compelling evidence from a FIFA study at the U17 World Cup in Mexico that indicates a serious health problem in Mexico with regards to meat contaminated with clenbuterol. This is a public health issue that is now being addressed urgently by the Mexican Government.”

It is not known how this might affect the Clenbuterol doping case against Alberto Contador, who tested positive at the 2010 Tour de France. The Spanish cycling federation earlier this year dismissed the charges against him, but WADA and the UCI have both appealed to CAS. Hearings are scheduled for next month.

'Berto to target the Tour de France next year and skip the Giro. :)

It seems that, based on recent hearing outcomes, that his appeal will be successful.

Yeah, with all the clenbuterol cases being overturned lately, there's very little chance anything is going to stick to Contador.
