2 x 10 vs 3 x 10

I hope someone can assist.

Th e2 x 10 vibe is big, and with 29er's becomming more popular I am not sure wich groupset is better.

Going from 3 x 9 on a 26 to 2 x 10 on a 29er do one need the 22T x 34? or will the 26x36 or the new two by ten suffice?

If you use your granny gear (22/34) a lot, you might struggle with a 2x10 - especially on a 29'er.

(I know that I am not 2x10 material)

There have been a few threads on 2x10 and gearing.

Have a look at some gear development tables and understand the ratios. Compare the gears you use now to the gearing you might have on a 29'er.

The thing is I see that the 2 x 10 seems only 15% more work than a 26 ?

Huh?

Hmmm Sorry I mean

2 x 10 on a 29er is 15% more work than on a 26er bike

Are you on a 29er?

Having a granny up front is like having a condom.

I'd rather have one and not need it, than need one and not have it!

True.

I never use granny gear... and then MTB Clarens happened on Saturday.

I fail to see the point of 2x10 on a 29er. You're compromising on the strengths of a 29er, all to save some weight.

My point exactly - c'mon Coenie you know I'm right!

Sorry, a bit small... try this one

the order of the rows is:

1 chainset teeth

2 wheel revolutions per crank revolution

3 wheel circumference

4 wheel distance per crank rotation
