I recently repaired a puncture in my front wheel's tube and noticed a vibration when coming downhill on my road bike. I'm not sure what the problem could be and am afraid that something might be wrong which could be dangerous when going downhill at speed. Can someone perhaps advise me?

Might be a loose spoke, check that they are all tight else take the wheel in to a bike shop and let one of the mechanics look at it - specially if you are a novice and don't know what to look for. Rather be safe than sorry.

When you repaired the puncture and replaced the tyre are you sure you seated the tyre correctly before you inflated it. Even if its a little out it will cause a strange vibration. Deflate reseat and try again.

Thanks Saint, that's probably a good idea

when you say QR do you mean the thing that tightens the front wheel (I'm a novice and don't know all the terms :)? Yep, double checked that...

Welcome to the sport!

The Saint is most probably right. Take it to a shop.

Thanks Nick, I will deflate and take it for a spin and see if its sorted.

Is it a actual vibration, or just the sound of something vibrating? If it's the latter, check to see if the knurled nut used to tighten the valve is tightened properly. Most people new to the tube changing scene put the nut on and tighten it before inflating the tube. Once the tube is inflated the pressure causes the valve to stick out a bit more, nut is not so tight anymore. This can cause an vibration/sound that is quite irritating and disconserting.

I had similiar problem going downhill on the back wheel. One of the breakpads were touching the rim, I open the caliper and problem gone.

Try and distinguish between a vibration - which will have a frequency of many, many times that of wheel rotation and; a knock or bump that comes only once every rotation.

That might help in identifying the problem.
