News, opinions? I thoroughly enjoyed the event and realised that despite plenty of training I still suck at the running part :(

Pleased with my overall result, but not sure how many athletes were away, doing XTERRA SA Champs in Grabouw.

I really enjoyed it. Pros: well organised, awesome T-shirts in the goodie bag and a really nice transition/ spectator area. Cons: route marking a bit dodgy on the MTB course in two places, plus I have to admit that it felt like I was riding around a construction site. The one muddy section was disgusting, I could smell bodily waste as well as washing powder (luckily it was very short, though). That wasn't enough, in my opinion, to out-do the whole vibe of the day and I'll be back for the next one.

The start was quite late, but man it was nice to wake up late for a change

Yep, unfortunately "dirty" river water is a suburban problem :( Luckily my nose was blocked :)

Over the three years that I've participated in the series it has always been very well managed. This one was very central and accessible as well. Previously the main race started at 9:45/10:00, 9:00 was great!

I'm very tempted to go do the out-of province (Zevenwacht, PE, Hollatrails) events as well...

I've heard stories of people lucking out and breaking collar bones on the MTB part... Although I did not see any crashes, nor evidence of them on the second lap.

During today's event, agteros? Not cool.

Its obvious I also need to work on my running. On the second MTB lap I was cleaning okes up that looked fit and strong, those same guys then came galloping past me on the second run and left me high and dry at the end. So, it took me a whole lap to make back the time they ran into me on the first run, and I couldn't ride enough time into them to stay away for the second run. Having to be good at more than one discipline is what's so cool about multi-sport. I've not done a single road race this year so far (very different to last year), and have absolutely loved Xterra, Troisport JHB City, Momentum etc.

Bring on the next one (if my calves ever recover )

Yep, today..

Those second runs are really tough... I (despite having done a LOT of running) still slowed down by over 20% from run 1 to run 2 :(

Duathlon, just like triathlon, is actually a running event, and if you (me!) struggle on the run... well the runners are going to have you for breakfast!

Nice 10km warm-up MTB ride to Waterval and a "hell" (most of it uphill and hot) of a MTB ride back home after  Those runners are just too fast, but fortunately not too fast on the MTB! I agree on the route markings that was non existing at two points on the MTB route as it was a bit ridiculous that there were non at all. On the fist lap I wasted a few minutes as I had to turn back trying to figure out where the correct turn off was. The recently cut section of bush we rode through on that section also sucked. Other then that I enjoyed it out there today and the event was well organized with everything e.g. transition, food stalls, umbrellas for shade, etc were well placed. I finished in under two hours so I'm OK with that. Will work allot more on my running and will most definitely not get running fit over night.

I was bummed that I couldn't compete today.

I was spectating though and it was on one of the wooden bridges that a lady in Pepto Pro kit came of.

I would have been quite unhappy not being able to have competed. Oh well, some other day then Dangle

Ouch! Not good for her :( It would have been easy to misjudge it for some.

On my first MTB lap I was quite 'happy' to be stuck behind some other people. Got to know the route, and my 'asem' could catch up with me :)

Still peeved about giving up 4 positions in my age category due to a slow second run/walk :cursing: Need to do some REAL brick sessions, and longer tempo runs.

I spotted you there taking some pics, Dangle - hope you got a good one of me!

My first duathlon of road and It was a JOLL. The first run was lekka. was hard work. then the fun startedon the bike. Not the most technical route but man I loved the uphills. whipped out in the river at the second crossing of my first lap. Hit the Snot and the front wheel was gone.

Came back and gooi'd some more. Been the first time in ages I did not have my Polar or a speedo of any sorts. Just let my gut tell me what I could do or not. The last run was ***. Big toe was chasing me all the way. at the turn on the uphill he was on my heels and I just let it rip on the downhill left him by 15 secs at least.

Came home and was feeling great.

Awesome event, awesome area, awesome crowds - sh!t course marking.

Bad course marking is a rudimentary error - bad course marking at a top flight national duathlon series is a sin.

Me - I'm pissed - had a shot at the podium but spent plenty minutes after the second water crossing trying to find out where to go. How about a sign, marshall or at least a flippin piece of bunting tape across the road so we know not to go straight. P!ss poor in my opinion.

Ok rant over.

Dangle - good seeing you!

THE Nathris - missed you man - see you at the next one...
